Eternabond Tape on a New camper

I picked up my unit last year and it is still very new. I was thinking that I would like to ensure I have no water leaks start before I notice them. The damage is from the water getting in and then not noticing the leak.

I am wondering if anyone has applied eternabond tape to the roof as a preventive maintenance item? I am concerned it might make the roof look like I fixed a problem. But my thought is it still might be a good idea. I am thinking it will stick extra good to a clean new surface.

I only have a fantastic vent fan, a black tank vent cap, and both sides of the roof edges running the length.

Thoughts?

Vin.

I had the same Idea. My unit just went out of its 1yr warranty and I am planning on adding Eternabond to my roof and vents etc, as soon as it warms up. I plan on doing a roof cleaning and let it dry and then apply. Have heard nothing but good things about it.

I picked up our new unit 8 weeks ago and am "eternabonding" the roof this weekend! Better safe than sorry!

Thanks everyone.

I thought it would be a good idea. Figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

I am going to order up a roll of tape now. Going to get black - 2" wide. Any wider than that and it might be difficult for me to handle. I hear once this tape touches something it sticks and will not come off. Working with a wide piece of tape can be difficult.

It's a great product to put around anything that penetrates your roof. Also, they make longer strips for putting on your seams.

I ordered 4", but probably should get some 2". I didn't realize how unwieldy the 4" would be when trying to place down.

Don't forget you want to be wide enough to cover the Dicor caulking completely over. I am going with the 4" on the front and back and maybe 2" around vents etc.

Real easy to cut down four inch with a good scissors.

Does eternabond mess up the warranty on the roof. I think it's like a 10 year warranty. They're always coming up with excuses on why they won't honor the warranty.

Anyone have any experience on this?

Are you talking about if you need to repair the roof?

Yep. If I need a roof repair, would it still be covered or would they say "you modified it so we can't honor the warranty. "

I would call a dealer; but if you are using it in place of the normal yearly caulking of vents, etc., than I can't see how it would.

I just purchased a 4" wide roll of eternabond to install two MaxxAir Fans. Very easy to cut any width (I cut 2" wide strips) with arazor blade. Spent a lot of time cleanng surfaces with acetone. It is sticky --but if you take your time it isn't a problem. The best price I found was at Best Materials® | Roofing Supplies, Roofing Materials, Caulking, Sealants, Backer Rod, Waterproofing, and Rubber Roofing --- Very fast service
Time will tell if it lives up to its description

Just make sure you clean the entire area you are going to put the tape on with acetone.

I just finished sealing all the edges and dicor caulking around the skylights and vents on our new 2015 Rockwood. It's great insurance and the 4 inch tape works just fine. I did it on our 2005 HiLo the year we bought it and never leaked a drop. I'm a believer. Definitely recommend it (Clean with Acetone first)

Is the tape covered on both sides or is it like a roll of duct tape? I notice when I try to cut duct tape lengthwise the glue will stick to the scissors. If this eternabond tape is as sticky as they say it is then it seems to me it would be hard to cut.

I ordered a roll of 2" from Amazon and it should be coming next week. I will also pick up a can of Acetone to clean with.

The front corner trim piece is going to cause me some problems as I noticed that it sticks up when they bent the trim over the curve of the roof. They globbed a whole lot of silicone into it and I hope I can get the tape over that spot ok. I understand that once this stuff touches a surface it sticks. I sure hate to screw up with a wrinkle or a fold onto itself while I am applying it.

Any tips on how to work with this stuff?

Thanks,

Vin.
