Generator?????

Just bought a 2013 246d flagstaff pop up, looking for a recommendation of a good generator for it. 30amp service, does not have an ac unit. Also can I plug the power cord into a regular outdoor outlet if I buy the adapter? Or do I need to run another power line from the panel box? Not new at camping but this I'd the first pop up that we have that accually has a power cord, the other one had the hookup but no cord. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Yes there are adapters, so no problem there. There are so many generator out there now it's hard to keep track. I have a Honda 2000i which is among the best, but there are some new Chinese units that have good specs but may not last as long. Lots of variables.

Honda is a good brand but it costly.You can plug in any can't site with the adapter. .

If you don't have ac you can get away with 20 amp service which most adapters and house plug outlets are. I have champion generator which I bought at tractor supply for $ 300. I run my 35' 5th wheel with 15k AC with no problem for past 2 years. Pretty quite and already has 30 amp rv plug. I did see a black max at SAMs with 30 amp plug and Honda motor for 400. Honda and yamaha are the best and run longer on less gas but are pretty pricey 750+. Could also consider up grading battery capabilities also. Good luck and welcome!

We have a Champion 2000 inverter generator. Its lightweight and extremely quiet. It works great for our needs and much less the cost of a Yamaha or Honda. If the Champion didnt work out for us then we wouldve prob bought a Honda or Yamaha...

This what I would look at.

Keep in mind, the 30 amp your trailer has includes 20 amps just for the A/C option. Without it, the trailer is actually designed to run off 10 amps. A 2000w inverter is going to power your trailer with all stock appliances just fine. It will also power some additional 110v appliances, but dont get carried away.

I own a 6500 w generator primarily for when the power goes out at home. I would not think about carrying something that size with a pop-up. When we had our pop-up I thought about the small inverter gens as they are perfect sized for a PUP.

Thank u to all for your input!!! I'm learning a lot that I didn't know. My popup doesn't have ac so now the 30 amp is making since to me. I was questioning why so many amps for a popup?? Now I know, just in case I put ac in it. Thank u again!!! I'll keep u posted on which generator we get.

I don't know if your pop up has a microwave or not but they also draw alot of current. If your just pluging it in at the house to keep the battery charged you will want to get the 30 to 15 amp adapter. You can get it at WalMart..

Some Champion generators are not all that quiet. I have camped next to plenty and they are pretty loud. The exception the Champion 2000 watt inverter type. Still not as quiet as a Honda but at $599 much cheaper. If you buy an inexpensive generator make sure you can return it if you find it's too loud...

I went with the Honda, for a few reasons. One, their reputation for lasting is great, they are quiet and the eco-setting makes it quieter, and just from reports from some camp ground hosts I know who host at the BLM sites in Moab. These guys (and gals) hear generators all the time, and hear reports from campers about their generators. Everyone I know uses a Honda either by itself or two of then connected together.
