Grill not working?

We're on our first trip with the brand new trailer. We have lots of meat to BBQ and we can figure out how to get it to work! We hooked it to the outside, pulled out the propane hose and connected it to the grill. Next to the flame adjuster/ igniter, we turned the valve on.

I don't hear any propane coming out and nothing is happening. Am I missing something? The inside cooktop and furnace get propane.

I just figured out that our fridge needed a switch flicked, does this propane need anything? I don't want to fry my burgers and steak...

You might have air in the lines

Did you turn the lever that is on the outside propane connection to on position.

The quick disconnect on my 5th wheel has a valve built into the quick disconnect, there is a lever under the disconnect that needs to be in line with the line/hose. Not sure if yours has this, but just a thought.

Not to sound like a wise guy, but you have to turn the lever by the disconnect like JDWeir stated and then turn the burner on itself and press the red igniter.

like stated above but
they might not have the red button on there grill - I know on the side kick (one I have that came with my trailer) you have to turn the valve "on" and put a lighter underneath to light the grill.

OP has 2011 10' 208, whatever that is. I don't know when they started putting the igniter on them, ours is a 2012 and it has it. They may not have the hose firmly connected, mine will stick on the grill, but have found out it is not 'seated'. They are just a little difficult to 'seat' on both ends, at least ours is.

If I had to decipher it - 10 foot High - 208 model but not sure.

has to be either the model of the grill or late 2011 / early 2012 since mine is a early 2011 (March 2011).

I'll try it again. It'm worried it's a defective grill or line. I did have the valve open, I tried to explain that in my OP but wasn't sure how to word it.

Edit- fixed the siggie. A simple request would have much politer than making comments, we're new here and just looking for help.

We got it going! The propane hose is short but once I set it one the ground I heard it click and it worked!

Thanks for the help! We almost have it all figured out. The first trip with a new camper is always a learning curve.

Thanks! Just a quick update. Went to start it for lunch and it didn't work again. We fussed with it until we realized it only works when the hose isn't fully pulled out. It was kinking and no propane was getting through. It's working on the ground now, hopefully the next time we can attach it to the side without kinking the hose.

Just get a hose extension kit @ Camper World or you might find one @ Lowes or HD. Take your hose with you to make sure it fits.

Looks like the same grill that my A124 has. I was thinking of buying a 1/4 inch street 90* brass fitting. I would install it between the female part of the coupler and the rubber hose. This would eliminate the big droop and increase the hose length with out changing of spending much money. It should still fit in the storage hole as well.

HI Guys
I have the same unit as you have and had nothing but trouble with the grill last summer. Solution seems to be to slowly open the valve on the propane tank until you hear the whoosh sound. Seems when I opened the valve totally it triggered the overflow protection and shut down the propane line. In fact this May I opened the valve a half crank before we left on our trip and got the porpane flowing. By the time we arrived at our site (4 hours away) the grill fired right up.

I will add my 2 cents worth, if you don't mind. We have a 2012 Flagstaff Microlite. We are having overall propane issues: oven, outside grill, furnace, etc. I tapped the lp regulator with a closed pocket knife and the problem went away. I am taking the tt to the dealer tomorrow for this and some other issues. I thought this might add some interest to the thread.

depending on how far your dealer is - if you know it is the regulator - camping world has them for like $60 - which is cheaper then the gas and time driving to the dealer and waiting for them to fix.

It could also be a pigtail - I had an issue where it would hiss when the propane was on and sometime sputter out the flame but once I switch the valve it worked fine so replaced a pigtail and havent had an issue since

After I noticed that the short hose made it hard to cook away from the camper and getting tired of hearing the smoke alarm go off constantly and the possibility of the heat generated by the grill causing problems to the camper canvas and shell, I decided to just buy a tripod grill.

Sure I could of got an extension cord...but look at the room I saved in my popup by removing the grill and storing the tripod which easily collapses. I also save a ton of propane by not using it for cooking. Instead I use firewood I buy anyway for the heat. Sometimes I'll also get a small bag of charcoal to keep the heat going for longer. Either way works for me. If you're looking for more space anyway, you may want to dump the BBQ grill and go for the tripod.
