Hello from So. Illinois
Just wanted to say Hello and thanks to those who have posted all this great information. Always something new to be learned.
We have been active for about 8 years now with our PUP and love every minute of it. We were tent campers before then, many years ago.
We recently bought a 2009 FR Rockwood Freedom 1940 LTD with many "perks" ( gotta love the electric lift ), I think age has a lot to do with the new perks. Prior to this we owned a 94' Starcraft Starlite, great little pup as well.
This year has been unbearably hot for everyone and we are so looking forward to Fall camping and enjoying the great outdoors once again.

Thank you! We are transplants from No. Illinois from 10 years ago, it was just too darn cold. Now residing near The World Shooting Range in Sparta / Marissa area, about 40 minutes West of SIUC. Love the Carbondale area.

Born and raised in Aurora, IL. Went to School in Carbondale, and moved to Richmond, VA for work. I agree, N. Illinois is just to darn cold!
Welcome again!

What a small world. I was born in Morris, but raised in Aurora and Joliet. Aurora in the 60's and Joliet thereafter. Went to Lincoln Grade School. I have great memories of Aurora, Phillips Park / Zoo, the Hi-Lite 30, Paramount, and Tivoli Theaters. And the downtown area was a booming place to shop with all those dime stores. We lived on Woodlawn Ave. at the bottom of the hill from the YMCA. ( back then that is ) I'm sure everything has greatly changed since then. Thanks for the flashbacks!

Wow. Flashbacks! I grew up in Joliet in the 50's and 60's. I was a west sider. Downtown was a great area. nice BB stadium and casinos there now. Left there in 1970.

@flaggy.... my family moved there summer of '69. Grew up on N. Broadway near the Old Hickory Hut Restaurant owned by the Grabavoys ( gone now ). You're so right, downtown was such a neat, hopping area. So much to see and do back then, you could spend all day down there.
Now, as you said, the Casino mainly rules the downtown area. So much history has been tore down.
If you are ever on / or visit Face Book, there is a pretty neat site to see. It's called "You Know You're From Joliet If....". You should really check it out. So much history and old pictures of yesteryear have been posted there. That will definitely bring back a lot memories for you. And I'm sure you will know a few people there as well. Enjoy!

to the forums! Oh so true with the comment about the perks being related to age. I love tent camping but found the ground was getting lower and harder to deal with.
With your camping history it sounds like you have lots to share with us.

Welcome! I live on the edge of Joliet and Plainfield (in Plainfield). Moved here from Aurora a couple years ago. Downtown Joliet is very scenic although im sure it's not what it was in the 60's and 70's. Has some rough areas but some are nice.
I'm trying to make my way south but the wife isnt havin it.

Oh my, that was 40 plus years ago. The teachers I DO remember were. This was early / mid 60's.
2nd Grade, Mrs. Randall, Mrs. Evans
3rd Grade, Mrs. Proctor, Mrs. Gregory
4th Grade, Mrs. Ross
5th Grade, Mr. Thoroughby (sp?)
6th Grade, Mr. Lubner
Art Teacher, Mrs. Mack
At one time I did recall who the Principal and Secretary were, but that has slipped away. Maybe I will have a brain spurt. Although, I can still see myself going to the Principals Office! LOL
Did you go to Lincoln School as well?

Briorick:
I did not attend, but my mother was the school secretary for a few years. Sounds like after you went through in the late 60's. Last name of Bumgarner. One principal was Simmons, the other was Pemberton. Just curious.

The Principal WAS Mr. Simmons. Thank you!
My sister and I, after graduating from Joliet High School in 76', went on a "field trip" back to Lincoln School and visited with our old teachers. It was such a great day, reflecting back on grammar school days. Most were still there, a few had retired, but all in all, was a wonderful visit.
This has been a joy. Thanks again for helping to jog this ole brain.
