Hi all, new here, have some questions about my new Rockwood.

Hi all,

My family has a new Rockwood 2318G, and we're very excited about it. It replaced a Coleman Taos that we outgrew.

We managed to get one that's completely loaded:

  • Furnace
  • Fridge
  • Water heater
  • Cassette toilet/shower
  • Electric water pump & 20 gal reservoir.
  • Electric roof system.
Anyway, I was hoping somebody here could answer a few questions for me, as Forest River's documentation & user manuals are pretty sketchy.

  1. Are the dome lights supposed to work from battery? I know that when I was at the dealership, and the unit was plugged into A/C, they worked, but when we raised it at home, and were just on battery, they didn't turn on.
  2. Does the battery charge while the unit is plugged into A/C?
  3. Does the battery charge while plugged into the tow vehicle?
  4. The Gaucho bed tends to slide out by itself. Has anybody noticed this? How have you dealt with the issue?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

I may be able to help you with a couple of your questions.

Yes they should. Look for a kill switch either by the beds or the swing galley. Once either fully extended (the beds) or in place (the galley) the switch is activated and the lights should work.
  2. Does the battery charge while the unit is plugged into A/C?
Yes, and according to FR website your model has a 35-Amp Converter with Built in Battery Charger
  3. Does the battery charge while plugged into the tow vehicle?
In theory it should but it may depend on your TV (tow vehicle).
  4. The Gaucho bed tends to slide out by itself. Has anybody noticed this? How have you dealt with the issue?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

If you have a 4 pin connector, your TV will not charge your battery. If you have a 7 pin, it will if your TV provides a hot circuit to the connector. That varies by brand and model and you would need to check that out.

It's a GMC Yukon with 7-pin connector. The trailer has electric brakes, so the TV has to provide some current.

ETA: Oh, another question, will the battery charge while plugged into A/C, with the top down?

very few tow vehicles provide more than just a trickle charge when connected.

if you expect a nearly dead battery to be recharged while driving, expect needing to drive 12 hours for that to happen.
