how do you lubricate your support posts?

Went to put the camper down last night after it has sat open since last Friday. Very humid around here and the support poles squealed and stuck quite a bit. The manual recommended lubricating with 30 et oil, but how exactly does one do this without getting oil everywhere?

My dealer recommended using a silicone spray, you can buy it at any auto parts, walmart, home depot etc. Comes in a can like wd 40 and just spray down the tubes. It doesn't attract dirt like oil will.
