Yep. It needs support on the sides of the awning. That is what let the water pool at the outside edge. Mine had separate poles that fit in the outer cross beam ( the bent one in your pic) and went up to the bag. There were Velcro loops up there to hold them in place. It also had one going right up the middle attached the same way.

Storms come up fast, especially here in Florida. That is why we upgraded to Fiamma F45s roll up awning, able to roll it up quickly and then roll it down quickly after storms passes

on a popup? While I have looked all over for an automatic awning for our popup, forest river has told me that they are all too heavy. The roof cannot support their weight.

Kinma, the website says for that model, the 8 foot length is 40 lbs. That is pretty heavy.

I agree galsofescape I looked at the 13' and it says about 60 lbs and the domestic bag says it's 30lbs. I talked to my dealer they say it would work but the lift cables couldn't handle it and that would put stress on them and the whole lift systems. It just sucks cause that awning would be soooo nice on the highwalls. I've even been looking at what they use for Hilo TT and the trail moynor. (spelling )

Yes kinma, it would be nice and i also have looked all over for one. but, the forest river rockwood factory rep told me that the roof does not have adequate support for any of the awnings that are self supporting.

I'm thinking of mod. Of the bent domestic bracket with stainless steel and looking at a center support rafter hope I can fix this sometime this year.

Carefree Freedom Electric Awning
Went to my Aviator today to get it ready for a trip, tested several of the systems and after rolling out the Carefree Freedom electric awning, I couldn't roll it back in. Tried several times with just a noise that sounded like the motor was jumping gears. Finally rolled it back out again to the sound of a loud "crack"! The rear, end pivot pin bracket just snapped. Instead of full length [3 inch] welds holding the components of the bracket together, it was just spot welded together. So cheap!
The mounted bracket is held onto the main "tube" with aluminum pop rivets!! Again, so cheap!!
My dealer spent over an hour with Carefree just trying to explain which bracket needed to be replaced as it had no individual part number. It looks like the only way we will get it fixed is to tear it apart and try to re-weld the bracket and re-install it.
Limit switches would not work either and the only way to replace them is a NEW MOTOR ASSEMBLY [$350+ shipping]. It just keeps on giving.
Carefree said to file a warranty claim. Being the unit is over 1 year old, not much chance of relief there. I don't think I've used the awning more than 10-15 times since new and most of those times were to demonstrate how it worked to people.
There is no way we will have it fixed by Aug 1 when we were headed out for the Blue Ridge Mts. Unit never would close all the way from brand new, but it is 5 hours to the dealer, so I bit the bullet on this one.

Just a reminder that the OP has a popup and this thread is in the Tent Camper/Popup section.
Popups have bag awnings, not traditional RV awnings, which many keep bringing up.
This not help the OP nor those that also own popups.

Swimmers. That's what I have been thinking maybe on a hw it might. But the hi lo has a bracket for the lower arm.

I think it has weight issues as well. This one is 30 lbs heavier than the current awnings that are used on our popups.

I dont follow the Bracket for the lower arm?
yes there is a bracket I know as i have replaced them 2-3 times( hit with the riding mower)
when raising or lowering the hi-lo that bracket moves with the top, however if you were to use it on a pop up,said bracket would be attached to the frame of the popup, you release the tension knob and leave the foot locked in the bracket, you then raise or lower the camper as needed, when its all the way up or down, you re tighten the knob and all is good in the world.
In the down position it may work, on a high wall as you have the height, but the weight will be the biggest issue
Although i wonder how much weight is really at the roof, if the legs are attached to the bracket I wold assume some of that weight is transferred to the bracket, and when the legs are on the ground that weight is again transferred. kinda like axle and hitch weight, yea it weighs XXX , distributed load over two areas
