HW296 garage fit ?
Hey all!
New to this forum, as we are seriously considering purchasing a 2014 Rockwood HW296...question is, will it fit in our garage?! We are having trouble locating specs for the exact closed length/width, please help! I am so excited, I can hardly stand it - but I want to make sure it will fit in our garage before we buy it. Our garage measures 19'5" (door to wall) & 17'4" (wall to wall). Thank you!

I'm in the same boat. Bringing home a new to me 2013 Flagstaff HW27KS this weekend. Yes, the length is 19'4". My garage is at about 19'6". I am more concerned about the height. My garage has a standard 7' high door. With the ac, its going to be tight. Worse case scenario, I have to get a low profile ac installed. I am not sure about width. I have seen 7' and 7'9". I am not sure which is accurate.

1st off, I love your happy faced beer cheers! I was mistaken, husband did find measurements...i misunderstood his quandary. I guess he isn't sure of the angle of the hitch...or something like that. He thinks it will fit by a mere margin, but will touch.

Thank you! We think it will fit, but just barely, if we go diagonal with it.

Congrats! I read somewhere on this forum that people let a little air out of the tires to lower the pup to make it fit in the garage. Can I ask what the difference is between a Flagstaff HW & a Rockwood HW? This is our 1st with any kind of travel trailer...all I know is like the ones w/ a toilet, shower, & walls around the potty.

I was in the same situation a few months back with my HW296. The 21' 4" is pretty darn close to accurate. My issue came in with the height. The specs show 72" closed height, but that does not account for the AC. I made a couple modifications on my garage to make it fit. First, I cut back the trim on the outside of the garage, in the shape of the AC unit. Next, I have to prop up the actual door, while in the open position, to gain more clearance. Finally, I have to deflate the tires about half way, and then once in, inflate them again for storage. Hopefully, this helps and you end up getting the unit!

flagstaff and Rockwood are twin models. The only difference is interior colors..... have many great trips with your new camper

I have not tried putting my HW in the garage. I think it would fit fine. I know Rockwood is using the low profile A/C units by Coleman Mach 3. They save a good 6" of height. That is genrally all that people needed to fit it into a garage.
Good luck.
I think the widht is around 83".
Vin.

I know length it will not go but going diagonally might work. Not much else going in there though

We had a 2010 Rockwood HW276 and with our 22' deep garage we had 2' of clear behind and 6" at the tongue for the garage door to close (19.5' long from ball to bumper). Pretty sure the 296 is about 2' longer.
As for height it cleared the garage door by 2" and that was scotching the door as high as it would go. Good luck. Loved our HW! Traded it two weeks ago on a TT.

My HW 276 clears my opening height by 1"!! Since the stairs from the laundry room are on that side, I had to knock 1 picket from the railing to have room for the bumper......close!

It is a good thing they use the low profile A/C units now. It gives us just what we need to clear the garage opening.

Any garage door repairman will be able to adjust your spring tension and motor travel to bring the door out of the opening. Not a job for an inexperienced person. There is a LOT of energy wound up in that spring! No additional parts should be required. Pushing up on the door could cause the cables to unwind from the spools causing the door to come crashing down or twisting in the opening. (21 years in that business, saw a lot of messes).
Also, I once owned a boat on a trailer that was too long for the garage. There was a simple fix that involved a good welding shop cutting the tongue, installing a hinge that allowed the cut-off to swing to the left when parked then come back solidly pinned in place for towing down the road.
I have not checked but I would bet you could find that mod on You-tube.
An idea to explore!
