mine is only rated for 100 lbs. If I was going to put over 50, I would have it reinforced while I was adding a carrier.

A sticker on my rear bumper says "Notice" Any addition of non-factory components to the bumper may void the chassis warranty.

Been using it for 10 years - no problems. I do not fill completely, but still about 4.5 gal ea. Bumper handles the weight just fine.
Not concerned about a rear-ender. That would be the problem of anyone following too close and not paying attention.

True...it would be their fault...but I would be concerned with my camper catching fire and my safety...not theirs

I made a similar mount that attaches with 4" u bolts from mcmaster carr. I carry full. Why is a gas tank on the back of a trailer scary? Come on guys.

Just what is everyone basing their fear or lack of it?

To create an explosion, it requires fuel, oxygen and a spark.

I have been rear ended in a Monte Carlo and it ruptured the gas tank but no "boom"

I am sure it is possible but really, what is the risk compared to an airplane landing on your roof top.

If anything, I think most people following me give me greater respect and don't tailgate!

Exactly. The ability to fold up would be ideal.

Keep in mind guys that I am carrying empty containers to hold grey and black water. The weight should be under 20 lbs total. They are bulky and I would like not to have to carry them in the pop up living space.

Vin.
