In-bumper storage?

I tried searching the forum for this but came up empty after 3 or 4 searches.

Is it possible to store anything inside the rear bumper on a Rockwood 2318G or Flagstaff 228D?

Has anyone done this?

I'm not talking anything heavy, just something long which doesn't really fit anywhere else, like a few cane fishing poles or a gray water hose (1/2") which I don't really want inside the camper.

I assume I would need to cut/grind off the ends and find caps to fit.

Thanks for any advice, even if its "don't do this".

The bumper is usually set up to store a sewer hose ( sometimes called the stinky Slinky). The bumper already has caps on both ends. But, the caps can come off in transit. I have lost at least one cap and almost lost my sewer hose, Had somebody honk at me at a red light to tell me I was dragging my hose before I lost it completely. I now have clips on it to keep it from happening again.
Can see using it for fishing poles if you would prefer.

Do you have a popup like the OP, who posted this thread in the Popup section.
Most Popups don't have a square bumper like other types of RVs.

high wall popups do have a bumper that stores the sewer hose. Mine did. I guess the regular walled pups may not then.

I guess I should have looked before I started asking questions. The bumper is a C-Channel and not a square tube like I though. Not possible to store anything inside. Feel like and idiot. Sorry to have bothered you.

You could go to the home improvement store/lumber store and get a 4" vinyl deck post, 2 caps, vinyl rain gutter and some bolts and make your own. There are others who have done and posted about it. The Search function in the light green bar at the top of the page will find the threads. A search for "rain gutter sewer hose" or "vinyl post sewer hose" will bring up many threads.

A bit off the topic... But I was going to post today. Around here they no longer carry the gutter in stores for the fence post mod and stopped selling the correct end caps to seal the gutter. Just added another fence post and am having a heck of a time getting the gutter.HD no longer has it (around here) and Lowes can sometimes order and ship it to my house depending on what Lowes I use. Neither have the caps avaible anymore.

my bumper was the regular size, my sewer hose would not fit, so I took it off and cut the brackets off and welded them on a 5" square tube, made some ends, and cut some gutter for a slide pull, and walla. sewer hose storage

That's odd. How do they expect the posts to not collect rain/snow and then crack when it freezes? I guess it falls under sales generation, kinda like having to do the same job over we called job security.

Oops, I guess I should have read your post twice.

I checked Lowe's this weekend and it is discontinued on their website.
Ace Hardware has it by the carton on their site, I'm stopping today to see if they have singles in store.

Since I used 5" post I suppose I could cut a 4" in half if they don't have it. . .

FWIW - When we had our pop-up, which had a c-channel bumper I stored our camping mat on it. It was an indoor/outdoor carpet and I held it in place with bungee cords.

If your talking the caps for ace, they no longer carry them around here. Amazon has the gutter, single 10' section... $254!

That's an excellent idea. Trying this out on our next trip in two weeks. Thanks.

I picked up a single section of the Raingo gutter (symetric) and end caps at the local Ace Hardware. About $8 for the gutter and $4 per endcap.

Next option would have been to try half a 4in post instead since I used a 5in post on the bumper.
