Hi I was wondering if anyone was towing the rockwood HW 296 with a pickup. I have a 2008 silverado with the 5.3 engine and was just wondering what kind of MPH i would get pulling this 4500 pound camper

My mistake, I ment to say miles per gallon. I am just curious what kind of gas mileage I might expect towing the hw296 with my truck. I usually drive at 60 miles an hour. I have 2006 25ft. Travel trailer that has a gvw of 7500 pounds, and I get 8 miles to the gallon

Don't have a HW but I do have a 3/4 ton Silverado with a 6.0L
Went on vacation in June to the Grand Canyon towing the A128S, about 3,200 lbs.
Drove 3,000 miles at 60-65 mph and averaged 14.8 mpg.
May give you some idea of a estimated mpg.

Are you sure you meant the 14.8mpg. I find that extremely hard to believe when most don't even get that not pulling a trailer. My work truck gets about 10-12 not towing anything. I am lucky to get around 15 on the highway.

Yes sir, I said 14.8 mpg. When I had my TT I got 9 mpg and that is why I went back to a smaller camper. In town I get 13 mpg and on the hiway with no tow I average about 15.5 mpg. Before my truck turned over 35,000 miles my mpg was not very good, 11 in town and 14 on the hiway. I usually use ethonal but read an article saying regular unleaded was better for mpg and I tried four tanks and the mpg did get better by 1-3 mpg. I also had the truck in the shop when the Max Air Flow Sensor went bad and the shop cleared the computor and re set every thing back to factory spes and this truck has never ran better. Was told their is a chip that burns out in the computor at 35,000 miles that increases performance of the vehicle, don't know if it's true but the truck does run better to me. Also at 62 years old, my hot rodding days are over and I am not in any hurry to get any place, if I go too slow, go around me. It all depends on how you drive. Believe it or not.

gas millage

Just wanted to post an update to my question about gas millage pulling a HW296 with chevy 5.3 eng. I got a chance to pull the HW296 which has a gvw of 4500lbs. I got 15.1 towing with my 2008 silverado 5.3 driving 65 mph. When i would tow my 25RKS jayco jayflight, the best i could get was 8mpg driving 60

I almost traded in my truck for a new van with a big 6, now i am happy i didn't

So far, we have been getting 14-15 mpg towing our HW296. We usually keep the speed between 60 and 65. Our previous trailer was an Outback TT, and 8-10 mpg was about the best we could get. That was the main reason we got a PUP.

From what I have heard of the 6.0 those numbers sounds hig, but he did say he was running around 60-65 so it is possible.

I tow our HW27SC with a Ford Excursion 6.0 diesel. We get 16-17 at 75 mph. If I towed at 60-65 I am sure it owuld be higher.

My old 5.3 Tahoe got around 11-12 towing small trailers.

Ya you have a diesel I could understand you getting that good of milage. Maybe he has a 2wd but I still find that hard to believe even at 60-65 mph.

Before I bought my current trailer, I towed a Trailmanor and averaged ~15.3 mpg. Fold down trailers really make a difference.

Hi I am Bill, I just picked up my HW296 last Friday. I tow it with Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi V8. It tows very well. no sway. I am having problem with getting my Truck to operate the Electric breaks on the camper. Just my luck a "plug and play" won't! I have to go to the dealer this week and hope they don't figure out how to charge me! You should be just fine with your truck and this camper.

I pull my HW296 with a Dodge Dakota (4.7 v-8) and get 11-13 mpg on average when fully loaded and five people in the truck. A trip through a lot of hills or mountains drops the mpg into the single digits.
