liscnece plate mount off tailight broken, ideas?

So the two plastic tabs that hold the liscence plate under the left tailight broke. I was removing the storage cover and it pulled up on the pl;ate, and they snapped.

It appears they are molded into the lightitself, which is caulked in place. Short of repalcing the entire light, suggestions on mounting?

only problem with that is it would not be lighted, and therefore would be technically illegal.

Have you checked to see how much the base assembly would actually cost? Look into that before you try rigging stuff to make it "work". You may find that it is not that much. plus you will not have to go through all the other steps to find out you should have just replaced the base to start with. Or you may end up with ideas like double sided sticky tape.

It'll only be illegal if you tow in the dark and I know a few that do even at noon.

Since my bulbs were rusted in place after only 2 years in use I bought exact replacements for BOTH tail light assemblies. Total cost including shipping for both lights was under 15 bucks. Total time to replace both assemblies using a razor knife to slice the caulk holding the assemblies and the two screws (rusted) holding them on was 30 minutes.

The replacements were exact. One had the lower clear lens and plastic plate clips.

I would like to upgrade to LED at some point in the future, but my camper budget is negative at the moment as the tow vehicle needs some work. Thanks!!

I think many of us have had this happen...I've learned to take the plate off each winter when I get ready to put the cover on. Saves it from getting caught and snapping the cheap little plastic nibs. On my Roo when I did it I just broke the old nibs off flush and got a metal bracket and mounted just below the taillamp (sealing the screw holes as I did it for leakage).

Excellent!

I have pulled a boat trailer for 15 years without a plate. Boat trailer plates are , for wahtever reason, stolen extremely often. after 3 in one season I simply stopped putting it on. I have never been pulled over for no plate on a boat trailer.

One weekend without plate on the camper, pulled over.

Got it in yesterday's mail. will be legal for our next trip.

BTW - you said you repalced with LED. Can you point me to the ones you used? When the camper budget is flush again in the spring, I may try and upgrade the lights to LED.

And thanks again!

Well I'm sorry I'm late on this string but here's my two cents. I mounted my plate to the bumper below the tail light the plate very sturdy and is still illuminated by the tail light so still legal.
