Manual winch vs. power winch

I am curious if anyone has replaced their pop-up tent trailer power winch with a manual winch. I posted a while back in another thread about the loud noise of my winch and it seems that the noise it makes is "just the way it is".

I actually like putting the trailer's stabilizers up and down by hand so I get a little arm exercise since when I'm camping I don't do much else with my arm muscles (just hiking)! So, if a manual winch, which the correct gearing, isn't a huge deal to install (I fear the cable tensioning!), then it seems like a possibility I wanted to explore.

My goal is to be able to leave a campground at 6 in the morning and not feel lousy about waking up my camping neighbors!

Interested in everyone's feedback. Thanks!

I'm curious too. I would assume you can raise / lower a manual roof with a power drill (like the stabiizers) and the right socket. Then if have the option of a stealthy departure in the early hours, and the option of using power if setting up or tearing down in the later hours.

That's an interesting idea! I like your choice of words..."stealthy departure"...
