Mildew on curtains

During our first winter storage a section of the curtains developed mildew. Forest River directions say dry clean only. Dry cleaner says only bleach gets rid of the mildew. Any one have this problem before? Any other options or ideas?

Thanks. We will give it a try. DW was worried about putting dry clean only fabric in the washer but if it works she will be happy. If not it is just one of decorative parts that go around the top inside the camper. It seems a little strange that there only one section of the curtain was affected and there are no signs of moisture anywhere else.

If the wet curtain is near the vent in the roof, check for leaks in the caulking there. That is where we had a slight leak.

Later this year go to Walmart an pick up a tub of DampRid and a disposable turkey pan.

Open all the doors (block them if need be) place the DampRid in the turkey pan on the floor.

I will check that out. After all this rain this week, it should be more obvious if there is a leak somewhere. Thanks

I just checked that out at Walmart.com. Seems like something that would also be good when storing the PUP. Anyone use it like that before? If so, does it work well?

Curtain never seemed even damp. I just noticed some white spots on the curtain on our second day of our first outing of the year.

Several years ago I wanted to clean the curtains in the TT we had at the time. The general consensus was that putting them in the dryer would make them shrink and they would no longer fit.

I was cleaning some upholstery with a Rug Doctor attachment and decided to try using in on the curtains while they were still hanging. They were not as clean as the washer would have done, but they were pretty close.

And there was no problem with shrinkage.

I do not have a PUP but the lite is a 30 footer and the tub sits in the middle on the floor.

I see no reason why it would not work for you.

The smaller packages might work better.

Figured I would post an update for anyone who has this problem in the future. I used the website above ( thanks f5). There was a suggestion there to wash with detergent and 1/2 cup baking soda and then add 1/2 cup of vinegar during rinse. Then air dry, I laid them out in the sun. It worked.

I also left a damprid package in the camper as another poster suggested.

They aren't in front me now but, I think they were c shaped clips. Pull down gently until the bottom can release and then out a little. Then the top should come off with a little pull up.

Try both sides of track. Usually one side works easier than the other. I've taken mine off for washing, but not sure how easy it will be to get them back on : )
