Mounted new dual step on 2010 HW296

Just mounted a new dual step to replace my single step, now it's much better getting in and out, my wife couldn't thank me enough for doing that.
Now I'm not sure when Rockwood start putting on dual steps, anybody no what year that was?
I'll bet too many people stared complaining it was to high with a single step to get in and out of, should have been dual from the very 1st HW296.

Those look great. My dual steps are bent from the previous owner and I am looking to do the same thing. It looks fairly simple to do based on how they are bolted on. Mine has dual 20" Flexco steps.

Did they bolt right in or you had to redo hangers .. I'm thinking of doing the same because of my over/under conversion.

My 2014 HW27KS has dual steps. So, some time between 2010 and 2014 :-)

I caught a rock getting into a tight site once. Was able to bend it back into working order, but it's not 100% like new.

Just a heads up for you, since it's likely closer to the ground than it was before.

I have the exact camper/steps. Did you remove them or leave them mounted when you bent them back? Mine fold in ok and I use one of those adjustable step reinforces on the bottom, its just an eye sore to see then bent like that.

I left it attached. Decided I could get more leverage on it that way.

To pull it back in to shape, I first hitched up to my TV to keep things stable. Then I hooked a come along manual winch to the rear bottom corner of the step. I caught the rock while moving forward so the steps were bent away from the hitch. I looped a cargo strap around the hitch supports at the back of my Excursion and pulled until things looked fairly straight.

This method ended up moving the outside frame more than the steps themselves, but it worked out OK.

Like I said, not new, but functional.

I went to my local hardware and bought a piece of steel angled for the added strength, then I bought all stainless steel nuts and bolt's , I bought 3/8 that's what was used on the original step.

The width of my old step in the front bolt hole to bolt hole was 23", my new step hole to hole is only 19 1/2", so I used one of the original holes and drilled 1 hole for the other bolt.

As far as the back of the step, I cut 2 pieces of steel for either side and 1 long piece for the back to mount against the inner frame to the brockets the original step was screwed to with a self tapping screw.

I used self tapping screws to mount the steel with, then I marked and drilled holes in all 3 pieces steel, I bolted the 2 pieces of steel to both sides of the step, then I bolted those to the long piece of steel.
Now all I have to do is is pull it all apart and paint the steel and put it all back together again.
I'll, post pics of the steel before and after I paint it, watch for my pics tonite.

Yaeh they must have.
I bought mine from a dealer used and it's the original step made by flexco that came on it.
