New member and looking at 2019 Rockwood 2280

I've had a 2005 Rockwood Freedom 2290 and a 2007 Starcraft 2406, both pop ups. I also had a 2008 Jayco Jay Flight 19BH and a now a 2012 Jayco Jay Flight 26BH Travel Trailers.

Not the greatest luck in campers, as I've had issues with all but I love camping.

The Rockwood 2290 was really a pile of junk and dumped it for the Starcraft 2406 which was built much better.

Fast forward to now, and the new Rockwoods look nothing like the cheaply built 2005 models. In fact I came away impressed but still have reservations about Forest River products as the 2290 was a nightmare. Customer support was awful and fought me on everything. They offered the worst customer support I ever had next to the excellent support I had from Starcraft (actually Starcraft back then instead of Jayco) and Jayco.

So I feel like I'd being dealing with the devil buying another Rockwood Pop up, BUT I really like the camper and to be honest, they really are the only game in town anymore. Clipper and viking dealers have no stock, and Jayco pop ups are junk with a capital J. I think since Thor bought Jayco, they want to phase pop ups out and really made a very poor product next to the excellent pop ups Jayco had years ago.

I guess I'd like to hear some stories about how Forest River support and how the camper has treated you. I'm still reading horror stories about these campers but I'm curious about the newest models.

BTW, looking at the 2280 because I like it's small size to fit in a garage or out of site outside. Also like how it has more storage inside with a toilet/shower options over the slide out version in the 2318G.

Thanks for your time and help.

Welcome! We are looking at a new pop up too! Not sure which one yet. We were looking at the Rockwood 1640 ESP, and 1910 ESP. I haven’t owned a pop up myself, I am relying on my past experiences, having grown up camping in a pop up with my family.

Thank you, I hate really down sizing but after getting hurt while camping by myself, I realized not everyone has the skills or vehicle to help me out towing my 29' travel trailer back home.

Now a pop up, any body who can tow a utility trailer or boat can handle this, including my wife.

Plus maintenance cost on a pop up are much cheaper, and it can be stored anywhere so when we look to move, having a spot for a 29' trailer won't be an issue.

I love mine. I have the 2318g rockwood and have been happy with it the past 4 years. I have been camping since the 60's staying in tents. Moving up to a popup was a real eye opener.

Awesome, glad to hear it. Actually went and looked at a 2019 2318G without the toilet option and a 2019 2280BHESP with the toilet option since they didn't have a 2280 to look at.

Found out I was wrong and why it's always good to see something in person. The 2318G turned out to have more storage as the 2280 dinette bench is full of wiring and the converter so it is not available for any storage. And the storage above the water heater is only a silverware drawer as the 2318G storage above the furnace is a deep and wide storage area.

So I'll be going for the 2318G! Also the slide out allows a walk area between the bench when made into a bed, and the dinette. No room to walk between the 2 on the 2280 model.

The slide out makes it really feel a lot more open as well. The dinette really opened up the camper with panoramic windows!

I'm always pretty busy but I'll see what can be done for camping in October and early November!

We recently bought the Flagstaff sister of the 2318G, the 228D and LOVE it!!!
We debated between their version without the slide and this because of the added weight and are so glad we bought it. The dinette slide really opens it up.
We have the cassette potty/shower and have not used it on our two trips but figure there will be a time we use it.

We just made a deal on a 2018 1910 ESP. Waiting for my CU to get it financed! [emoji1317]
