New Owner - 2018 2280BHESP

Hello! Just wanted to say hi and share our new 2018 2280bhesp. This is our first RV and we're excited to start exploring NorCal and the West Coast with our 1yr and 4yr old boys.

Any tips, tricks and must do's before our first trip?

I'll be towing with my 2007 Trailblazer SS (rated for 6600LB with WD hitch) which on our first tow home, about 50 miles, did really well considering the shorter wheelbase. Luckily she has plenty of power (395hp) and larger factory brakes. Will be installing a Direct Link brake controller this weekend and transmission cooler very soon. The SS has factory air levelers which work well but I'm still considering a WD hitch. Do you guys have a recommendation for my 2280 ESP?

Also, has anyone done a dual 6v setup on this model? Is this overkill for 2-3 night trips, dry camping?

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. My advice is to spend some time reading in the forum on the different topics keep an open mind and take things with a grain of salt.

Welcome and congrats! Nice pup.

I would not get a wdh for a pup. I think rear suspension help would be more appropriate.

My interstate grp 29 deep cycle will handle 2 -3 days running vent on low at night and being stingy with lights. With the furnace all night.....probably not as easy to do. You might want the 6v setup in that case. I just hit the furnace a couple times while I make coffee in the am if it’s cold dry camping. I have yet to kill the battery on a 2 nighter.

6 volt setups are heavy. I am trying to avoid one. My pup is pretty much maxed out already weight wise.

Congrats on your new pup!

Our first trailer was a Flagstaff Classic 625D with electric brakes and a small slide. We pulled it without a WDH but did put on a transmisison cooler and a brake controller on a 2002 Pathfinder. No issues with that setup.

I'd recommend pulling it for a bit without investing in a WDH and see how it goes. If acceptable, you can put the money you would have spent on a WDH into some other accessories instead.

Thanks for the reply's! We're excited for the summer!

I do have a quick n00b question about making reservations...

Many of the sites I've looked at say RV & trailers OK but the pad length is 24ft. Does this mean that if I unhook, I'll fit, or that my total length when hooked to the TV needs to be less than 24ft?

The pad length is normally just for the trailer. Your TV would sit in front of or off to the side.

If you want to extend the time, look into a solar panel. Quite a few of us have done that and I find my 100 watt panel keeps my battery topped off in summer days in Colorado. If you buy a kit, you can always add more panels later if one isn’t enough. Look back on the forum for ideas from people who have done it.

That's what I've been thinking as well. I'll dig around or maybe just get something like this?
