New pup owner, questions about holding tanks
Hi all, I'm new here in the forum. We recently bought a 2010 Rockwood 277HW, that I'm doing some repairs before first use. I've repaired rotten wood on the roof sidewall, adjusted power lift limits, repaired damaged hex bolt head on the winch for manual crank, limit sensors, etc. Next steps are to paint all interior cabinets in white, and install a new wood plank floor. I may create a new thread showing pictures of repairs so it may help anyone out there trying to do the same. I used to have a class A motorhome, but we decided to downsize (big time) to a popup because of the benefits for our type of use. We like to dry camp at where with a big rig is hard to get, we also like to have the pick up truck as a vehicle to move around at the camping. We like to bring some of our toys in the truck bed such as golf cart, dirt bike, atv, canoe, etc. Easy driving on the highway, and many other benefits that many people have already listed. I am familiar with connecting the sewer hoses to dump at stations as I did with my motorhome. This popup camper has sewer drain connection, but I doubt it has holding tanks. So let's move to the questions:
1) Does it have any holding tank at all? Either a small gray and/or black water?
2) If it doesn't, does it mean that the sewer drain connection is meant to have it "directly" connected to the sewer dump hole at full-hookup sites, and have the valve open all the time? My concern here is because I remember reading in many forums about motorhomes suggesting to have the drain valve closed, and let the tanks to fill, so then is easier to dump, draining the black tank first, and then the gray one so it helps to flush the pipes and hose. In this case with the pop up, if I have the valve open all the time, doesn't bad stuff get stuck on the hose while using the toilet? Sorry about this gross question!
3) We love dry camping, so besides the questions above, I feel the need to buy an external holding tank. Sometimes called the "blue" tank. In this case, do I need 2 tanks? One for black and one for gray, or is it safe to use just one for both things?
Thanks for the help answering these questions. And if anyone has any question about the repairs I'm doing, let me know. I'd be glad to share my repairs experience. Haven't finished it yet, but need to get it done for its "debut" on spring break.
