Hi all. I just purchased a 2010 Flagstaff PUP MAC 206LTD in mint condition. My wife and I love it. It came with a new AC. Power winch and heated mattresses. Coming from a 3200 lb Coleman Mesa where the ABS roof finally gave over the winter with huge cracks we decided to downgrade to a smaller camper hence the flagstaff pup. We took it on its maiden voyage and loved it. The Coleman was bigger but the utilization of space coupled with the floor plan made this a winner.
One question. The cable attached to the winch has some rust. Do I add silicone or grease or oil to it because I fear it could snap over time. Unfortunately our PUP is outside all the time and I want to preserve or proactively prevent the cable from ever breaking because of rust. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.
Adding some grease to the cable will help keep the water away. If it is rusting then you should be inspecting it yearly for any cable strands that might be breaking. If so, you should replace the cable.
There are many posts and videos around to help you do it. It is a DYI project and not all that complicated.

Welcome! We also switched from a large Coleman pup to a new Rockwood 1940; smaller is better. Good folks here! Do the search function several persons here have wonderfully detailed the greasing/oiling process. Enjoy!

I would wire brush the rusted areas and then coat with some grease.
