Optimum Hitch Height

Have used our 206ST twice already but seems to be too low at the hitch. Can anyone help with the optimum hitch height to carry the load efficiently?

Thanks for your help.

It's whatever makes the trailer level when hitched. Very important for tandem axle trailers.

First have your TT on level ground with level. Then measure the height from the ground to top inside of the hitch. ( Mine is 21 1/2 ). TV on the same level ground with a full tank is 22 1/2. This means I have a 1 in difference. Since I have an average suspsion and a loaded tongue of 750, I should have a difference of 1 5/16. But can not get just another 1/2 ball lift. If turn the shank over, I will gain an 1 1/4. I fugre it better to be on the low side for now. I plan on buying Timbren load bearing bump stops to help.

This is from Equal-i-zer install:

For example: Trailer coupler measures 18”. Loaded tongue weight is 800 lbs. For installation on a ton pick-up truck, set the ball height to 19” because 1/8” X 8 = 1” above coupler height.

Use this table to calculate additional rise needed for hitch ball.Loaded Tongue Weight in lbs.
400 500 600 700 800 900
Stiff 1/2 5/8 3/4 7/8 1 1‑1/8
Average 3/4 15/16 1‑1/8 1‑5/16 1‑1/2 1‑11/16
Light 1 1‑1/4 1‑1/2 1‑3/4 2 2‑1/4

Loaded Tongue Weight in lbs.
1,0001,100 1,200 1,300 1,400
Stiff 1‑1/4 1‑3/8 1‑1/2 1‑5/8 1‑3/4
Average 1‑7/8 2-1/16 2‑1/4 2‑7/16 2‑5/8
Light 2‑1/2 2‑3/4 33‑1/4 3‑1/2
This chart is intended as a guide and works for most applications. Depending on your tow vehicle and trailer combination, further adjustment may be needed.
