Outgrew our pop-up faster than expected

Last week we took our first trip of the year, we stayed at a KOA in Hot Springs AR. As the week progressed we found ourselves wanting a bit more room and we didn't like the time and energy it takes to setup and tear down. So, we traded our pop-up in for a Airstream.

Our pop-up was a 2015 Rockwood HW296, we have a few items if anyone is interested.

Pop-Up Gizmos (both beds and dinette) complete
screen room (never taken out of the box)
Camper Cover (ADCO brand)

We've had ours for 2 years, and my wife grumbles about the setup sometimes, but i just tell her you are always looking for some exercise, just consider the 30 minutes it takes to set it up as part of your program for the day. She usually doesn't say much after that.

I understand, we looked at it the same way. We also wanted to just walk in and sleep, or go in/out at our leisure.

We had the same experience. After 20 years in a tent we decided that we wanted AC, so we bought a 12 ft pop up for the 4 of us. We took it to Disney at x-mas and camped several other places the next summer. We then decided we wanted a bigger bathroom so we would just not need to use the public showers, so we bought a double tip out hybrid. It lasted 4 years until we went camping with 4 kids, it rained all week and I brought hom a new F150 EB max tow. My wife then started at looking a 5vers. 2 weeks later I had traded in and got a 35 ft Eagle ultra lite bunkhouse 5ver. It lasted 5 years and over 30,000 km and 2 more trips to Disney. I a, retiring in 3 to 4 years so we just took possession of a Heritage Glen 42ft 5ver with bunk hours and all the other options. We plan on living in it almost 6 months a year in the southern US during the Canadian winters

A pop up can be just a start on a long journey ... Never regretted it..

As you can see in my signature, we kept ours many years. Nearing retirement as well, we decided to finally upgrade. Our 3 kids are all jealous, wanting to know why we waited so long.....lol! Nice to have the creature comforts, and no setup hassles! But, hey, the pop up was a lot nicer than the tents we started out in. I will add, all the trips made for wonderful times and memories with the kids-and each other!

We have dubbed our new home....the Taj MaPaul !

We had a PUP for almost three years. Putting up and taking down was a pain, but I didn't mind. Then on one trip I got a bad case of the flu. My DW had to set up, with me telling her the steps.

Two trips later, we were leaving and it was raining like crazy. We waited to see if it would let up. It didn't, so we had to take it down and pack up in the rain. After that, the DW informed me we would never again camp in the popup. We headed to the RV dealer.

Long story short, once you start upgrading, it is hard to stop. We have since upgraded twice and the DW is now looking at a 5er! Oh well, at least she is happy and we do a lot of camping!

Yeah, we hadpopup for 20 yrs. Kids were PO'd when we got the Roo.

I take it as a challenge with our 2012 rockwood 1940 to keep it as long as possible, I am 62 years young, it is perfect for my wife and daughter. Were the numbers different, I am sure it would have been another model. Keep on camping! It does my heart good to see so many good folk and families enjoying the outdoors!

We did the opposite, and went smaller. We had a Coleman Westlake (12ft box) PUP, which was great for the kids and their friends. But it was too big and heavy to get into the small, secluded sites at the back of campgrounds. It had a lot of stuff we never used - hot water heater, shower/cassette potty, outside shower. We sold it when we moved to Colorado from California.

With the kids off to college, only weekends available to camp, and a minivan to tow with, an A-frame looked like a great choice. And it has been. We got the small model - 12ft box, but no ends or slide-outs to extend - to fit in the garage so it could be ready to go with an hour's notice (pack food and clothes).

It's perfect for our present camping style - 1-4 nights for the 2 of us (sometimes one of the kids will join us). Setup of the entire site from arrival is less than 1 hour, and I can do it all myself except for the EZ-up over the picnic table. We use campground toilets and showers. We cook, clean, lounge near the picnic table unless it's raining or snowing.

We've been in pop-ups for about fifteen years. Started in a 23-YO Steury in 2001 when the kids were little. It took all six of us to get the top up and down, but that old thing took us everywhere we wanted to go. we upgraded to a smaller, lighter Skamper for five years. It was a '95 model, and just right for our down-sized family. When that wore out, we found a 2002 FR. It is bigger, but with the crank, it's not too hard to set up. We will wear that one out before we upgrade again. I like the simplicity of a pop-up. Not too many moving parts, and easy to store.
Also pulls easy down the road. We will probably never go to a TT or 5-er.
