I have been looking online and there are a lot of patching options; some with adhesives and some just with peel back pre glued. I want a fabric vinyl coated patch to for strength ......

Ouch! I feel your pain. This is what we purchased and used for our tent end as well after we had a little mishap ( pretty similar to yours ) when we first got it. Works great.

Although, I could not find it in any stores, I had to order it in Ebay.

Your welcome. Thought of this afterwards the thread is waterproof because its waxed. If you do it that way take a wax stick and go over where you've sewn and it will seel the holes. Then spray with a canvas waterproofing. There is a tent repair kit that you iron on the patch.
