Pics of my latest trip showing an unlevel site

This campsite is actually what I was talking about in how my pop up makes easy work of the site while the travel trailer would take some big time leveling time.

My site sloped down from front of site to the back. To level my previous 29' Bunkhouse TT, I would had to build up all 4 tires, on each side, to bring the rear of the camper, so that it could be leveled with the front of the camper. I had to do this before, many times, and it's a major pain in the butt. Unfortunately you really never know how bad the slope is on a campsite when you reserve it, until you get there. That's why I had 4-10 packs of the Lynx Levelers.

With the pop up, it's short box length makes the slope a none issue. I did have to put my shower's portable blue waste tank at the rear of the camper since the shower outlet was so low, it was way below the tank inlet. Had to put the tank near the rear to get the tank inlet below the shower outlet so that the water would actually flow to the tank. Front of camper was so low, couldn't even get the wheel under the tongue jack.

BTW, this campsite is # 240 at Indiana State Park Chain O' Lakes. Really beautiful campground but it was so hot this last week with high humidity, I couldn't really enjoy it like I normally would. There was heat advisories out almost all week.

My pics of the campground and the campsite.

I also wanted to include pics of the Premier 2716g in actual use, but it was just me this time as my daughter had so many day camps and activities going on, she couldn't come and my son had to work. My wife is my daughter's taxi so I was alone but sometimes peace and quiet is a vacation in itself.

2716g in actual use.

Never had a slide out in my previous pop ups so didn't realize just how hot the slide out made the camper. AC had a hard time keeping up but the heat the slide out tent was making was unbelievably in this heat and the full sunshine beating down on the bunks. I kept the window shades closed and the bunkend privacy curtains closed in trying to keep the heat out, but the slide out heat was the main issue.

Regarding the heat, have you heard of Pop-Up-Gizmos? I owned some and considered them somewhat of a hassle to attach (securely) but they were very effective. They're worth the effort when temperature conditions (hot or cold) warrant. They also cut down on unwanted light intrusion when trying to sleep in in the morning.

Actually I never camp in the heat but this was the exception. I never had problems with the last 2 campers that didn't have a slide out. I was actually very disappointed in the heat it produced and was second guessing my choice to go with a slide out model. BUT I'll just stick to camping when I normally do, mainly in fall, spring, and maybe late summer. To hot to even enjoy the outdoors so what's the point.

I actually thought about the high wind PUGs and looked at their design and pricing. Honestly, they are way overpriced, don't have a good attachment design, and create a problem with a place to store them. So, I will likely not camp anymore on the hottest week of the year.

At least your site appeared to be somewhat level. I have camped on sites where one set of wheels had to leave the ground in order to level the trailer.

They did, they're on lynx levelers, 2 blocks high, on the entry door side.

It looks like you backed too far in and into the grass behind the gravel pad. Maybe if you moved it onto the pad it would level out a lot better. I backed into a spot in Biloxi, and when I got out to take a look, the bottom of the back of my camper was 6 ft off of the ground. They leveled the pad, but behind it was a huge slope. I pulled forward about 5 feet, and everything was level.

Haha. We were just in site 270 at Chain o lakes. It took 6 inches on one side of the camper to get it close. Plus we had an indian burial mound right out the front door. Nice campground thoClick image for larger version

Really... your issues are somewhat normal for camping.

Two Lynx blocks under a tire isn't far off level at all. Heck we camp many places it takes 8-10 inches of leveling on a side to even get close. Sometimes more.

Heat is heat. We can't change mother nature. I bet even though you thought it warm in the slide, the rest of the camper was way better than outside.

It's camping... enjoying the great outdoors! When you must be inside, all you can do is make the best of it whether it is extremely hot, very cold, pouring rain, whatever. These kinds of weather days don't stop us from camping.

Any day camping is a better day than staying home and catching up on chores or being at work!

Side to side wasn't the issue, that was mild. The issue was front to back, which wasn't a big deal in the pop up but had to fight many times when leveling long 29' travel trailer.

Camper was suppose to be a place to cool down from heat exhaustion. Hard to do when it was hot inside. There were heat warning and advisories out with such high temps and humidity. I would rather it be in the 20s, i can at least put more clothes on and not worry about having heat stroke.

Popup Gizmo's are the way to go. Be sure to get the Velcro added and then they are easy to install. We had the high wind set. Makes a huge difference in the heat and cold. Wouldn't camp in a Pop up without them.

Didn't see anything on their site for velcro. How would that install instead of the many strings with plastic hooks?

Thanks

I'm actually not past the gravel pad at all. If I was closer to the road, the camper would had been even more unlevel.

Seems like most of the state parks in Indiana have badly unlevel sites.

When I was at Racoon lake with my 29' TT, another camper with a ~27' TT and I, both had to call DNR down to our campsites which were very close. Neither one of us could park in either site because they were so ungodly unlevel. DNR, gave both of us new sites for the week and apologized. Just another thing I get ticked off about when they don't reinvest the money made at the parks, back into the parks.

Your site and camper are very nice. Park is very nice but was so hot, I had to change clothes twice each day because I was soaked from sweating so bad in that ungodly heat. I'll have to go again when it's much cooler, like today, of course.

I wanted to hike and fish more, but ended up just trying to keep cool and take it easy which was OK. A trip of peace and quiet is also a good thing.

My favorite park is Mississinewa Lake.

Come to Nova Scotia. Average summer Daytime high around 75-80 and nighttime low around 60-65. The Provincial campgrounds are all pretty decent. Level for the most part. Treed or open, whichever you prefer. Many with ocean or lake frontage. No bears...usually.

Maybe if you were a few hours from Northern Indiana but you're a bit of a distance.
