Power/surge protection

Hey all! Does anyone have a opinion on weather or not it is necessary to use a surge or power protector when camping in Michigan? This is my first pup, buying new, and wasn't sure if this would be over kill. If it is a good idea any recommendation?
Thank you in advance.

not necessary anywhere, but recommended everywhere. Location has nothing to do with it.

Better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it. Don't know which pup you have or which onboard electronics you have but you have to consider what it would cost to replace the furnace, fridge, AC, microwave, etc. Progressive Industries makes great units and are highly recommended. If you think you might upgrade to a different camper get a portable unit.

I bought a previous model surge guard for a deep discount, knowing that I needed one, but not well educated. I will let this one go with the camper and get a PI hardwired on my next purchase.

I had an intermittant high resistance on one leg of the power outlet recepticle at the RV park where I was staying last year. I would never have know about it without the Progressive monitor that I hardwired in. I was getting fluxuating voltage swings. It also melted my plug on the bad side. I will always have one if I ever get another trailer. The first thing I do when I plug in at a new site is check voltage, amps, grounds.

Ditto on above. I would never use an RV without my Progressive EMS PT50. Plus they have a lifetime warranty now! Surge Guard is the other major line and I'm sure they are fine too.

You did the right thing! We use a surge protector and have for years. As others, I would not leave without it.

I really need to get one too. Just spent over $40k on new 5th wheel, countless $$$ and time setting it up how we want it (hopefully winter ends someday so we can use it), this is good insurance to protect our investment
