Protected storage under bunk ends.

Hello everyone,

While logging on today, I noticed a pop up photo from Platokidd's photo album that popped up. It showed his pop up set up and he had a cover hanging down from the bunk ends to make a sort of shed under the bunk ends.

As I have lost my large front storage bin when I sold my old pop up, I will be using some Rubbermaid bins that I will store inside to tow and then take out at camp. I think this is a great idea to make a protected area.

Unfortunately I have not learned how to upload photo's yet.


Has anyone else done this? How is it done? How is it attached? And most important is what type of material did you use? I sure wish I would have kept my add a room. I could have cut that up.

The rear bunk end fabric was nice to have.
We put our chairs, firewood, grill and other things under there.
This was a option item from Starcraft the came with our popup.
The wrap would snap on to the bottom of the bunk and had stakes to hold it down to the ground.

The fabric wrap we had was made of vinyl similar to awning material.

I am gonna see if I can make something like that. The Rockwoods have the tenting tuck under the bunk end and then attach to Velcro underneath on the plywood bunk. I would have to stick some velcro to the actual tenting under the bottom edge flap I think. That could get messy as the tape gets old and sticky. Hmmm. Gonna have to think about this one.

The fabric was in about 2-3" from the end of the bunk. The snaps just screwed into the the plywood on the bottom of the bunk. Not thru the canvas of the popup.
A heavy duty hook n loop could work, but the snaps work great.

OHHH. Ok. Yours looked nice and flush with the outside edge. I just figured it was tucked under the bottom flaps. If I back it off a few inches, I am sure that is an easy mod to make. I could even do what Rockwood does and simply staple a Velcro strip to the underside.

This might just work out well.

Vin, what material will you use? I wonder if the canvas dealer will sell pieces cut (and hem ends) to spec if we supply dimensions?

Billy. Yes. That is the big question. I think I would want to use some awning material to help keep things dry. Canvas would work also as the water should just run off even if it soaks up the water.

I guess I want something that would fold nice. Not sure awning material will nor do I think it is lightweight. I was shocked at how heavy the screen rooms are. When I got mine it was in a bag and the thing was heavy.

The fabric that came stock with my Starcraft was a heavy duty vinyl with eye holes on the bottom for staking down.

I would use upholstery vinyl that you can get at most fabric dealers. People use them to cover banquettes, kitchen chair seats, etc. It is vinyl on the outside, but has a mesh fabric on the inside. It is heavy duty and you can get it in different thicknesses, depending on what you need it for.

I was looking at it to do some mods just a few weeks ago at a fabric store. I think the heavy was $14.99/yard.

I googled "upholstery vinyl" and came up with lots of hits. I think using this fabric and a grommet kit, you could make your own at a pretty reasonable price, but it will add some bulk to your traveling storage.

Hi Kalia,

thank you for those idea's. I agree the marine fabric could be ideal. The weight might be a factor as the amount of material one needs is a lot.

The biggest problem is gonna be finding fabric that comes in 80" width. The camper alone is 72" high so I would want to leave a bit of slack for varying terrain. For length you need close to 200" I would think.

Not yet Plato but now that I have possession of my unit, I can begin take some measurements and think about how I want to get it to work.
