Rockwood HW 296 HELP W/ MODS.

Hello to everyone.

This is the first forum I ever join. Well, I just purchased a 2014 Rockwood HW296. Before I made the purchase, I did some research & I reviewed much info in this site. This is also the first RV or PUP I've ever owned. Ever since as long as I can remember, I've always tent camped. Usually camp about 2 to 3 times a year. 1 to 3 weeks at a time. Most of the places I camp, I am probably going to be "Dry Camping" 9 out of 10 times.

Well, were do I start. Their are so many Add ons & Mods I want to do to the pup. I've been jotting down ideas & part numbers as I have been researching, but since I don't have a RV background I need guidance and suggestions. Hopefully I am going on the right track!

First of all, I need to purchase (2) 2000 generators. I've narrowed it down to either Honda or Yamaha. I like the idea of using propane as well as gasoline. I think the Yamaha does that. Does the Honda as well? Any suggestions on the mods?

since i lived and camped in SoCal for many years, i know quite well that we have to do a lot of dry camping.

you may not need two Hondas. unless you plan to use the a/c a lot, one will be just fine to run everything else. that's what i have.
and if i ever decide i need to run the a/c more, then i'll get the second one at that point.
i actually can run my Dometic 13.5btu a/c with my Honda 2000, as long as i'm not at elevation.

Thank you very much for your advise. I read somewhere that in California, 90% of the National parks, in one way or the other, it's only dry camping. I think I will go for the Honda. I've read some reviews were it states that it's a bit more quieter than the Yamaha's.

i don't know of any NP's in California that have ANY hookups of any kind.
our State Parks have less than 1% of all of its campsites, with any hookups.

so, if you like NP's and SP's campgrounds in California, expect to be dry camping.

In NorCal, New Brighton State Beach, has a few sites with both electric and water. Also, Pinnacles NP has a few RV sites with electric and centrally located water spigots. Pinnacles CG has hook-ups by virtue of the fact it used to be private and was assimilated by Pinnacles National Monument, which was upgraded to National Park status last year.

I did look up the area in NorCal. I will be heading out there later this summer.

I got my propane converted Yamaha from US Carburetion. Generator Conversion Kits to Propane and Natural Gas.

I looked at the Honda kit for the 2000i and it looks pretty cool.

I just placed my order with US Carburation for the dual Honda's. Since I will be dry camping 99% of the time here in SoCal, this conversion makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the lead.

Got this at Wally world, "Ozark Trail Instant 2-Room Shower/Changing Shelter". It is a two room, instant set up shower tent, all poles attached. It comes with a Coleman 5 gallon sun shower but we set it up beside the outside shower on our HW296, hung the shower and it worked great! Easy to set up and easy to pack up.

One of the most convenient modifications I did to our pop up was to put a deep drawer under each of the dinette seats in the storage areas. This allowed us to use the area more conveniently. We didn't have to stand on our head to get to items stored in this area.
