Well then I posted about this in another thread lol

I basically said this is a no brainer, the trailer is heavy, the van is heavy and has crappy brakes to start with.

Install the controller and use the brakes, there is no debate to be had.

The entire conversation about brakes..... Sounds like the OP is trying to do this on the cheap.

assuming that the OP has a minivan because of a larger family, if it were me, i would do everything i could do to ensure the minivan(a marginal tow vehicle)was as safe as i could make it, no matter what it cost.

No, the OP, me, is new to this. Where have I skimped?

I've been researching what camper to get and how to best prepare for it for over a year. I've downgraded what I originally thought I could tow, I've put money into my tow vehicle to prepare it for towing (including having someone else install it for me rather than DIYing it, like I do with some other projects).

I have a van and I want to take my family camping and I want to do it safely. That's why I'm here, that's why I'm asking questions. I bought two locks last week to keep the camper from theft, as that hadn't occurred to me before reading the forums. I'm currently looking at a surge protector now, had no idea that was even a thing to consider before browsing the forums. I'm researching and asking questions about brakes because I believe my pup doesn't have them and I'm trying to make a smart decision about whether to purchase them or not.

Two friends I know that use pups don't have brakes on theirs (one tows with a minivan as well), and I asked the previous owner if the trailer I purchased had them and he said no. I checked this weekend if it does and I honestly can't tell if mine has them.

So get off your high horse and realize that this is a new world to some.
