Roof damage

A pretty stiff breeze camp up this weekend while me and my wife were away, and caught our awing, blew it up unto our popup's roof. The good news is the awing is alright, but the bad news is one of the poles put a hole in the roof. The hole is about 2'' long, but in the shape of a arrow head. Is this something that I can repair, or better left to a dealer? thanks . My camper is a rockwood 2318g, and the damaged. area is on the back corner of the drivers side straight across from the ventilation fan. joe

What color is your camper?.........This happened to me once......it's how I learned never to leave the awning out. Anyway, Geocel is what they use to seal the roof parts.......find the right color and just seal that area.

trevor, it's white, pretty much the standard color, I guess. So where the best place to pick up some geocel? And yea probably won't be using the awing for awhile. Its really a pain to roll it up and down once the camper is set up.

Looks like Ace Hardware, Amazon and Camping World are the three easiest, from my Google search. I believe I saw where Fastenal also carries something of the same sort.

Good possibility any decent RV dealer/Store would carry something of the Geocel order.

I had a rockwood HW276. The basketball hoop fell on it during a very high wind storm several years ago and punctured a small hole like you described, and the insurance covered it. I was asking for just a repair and the dealer said they wanted to replace the whole thing. They said with their experience, it always leaks at some point and causes major damage. Depending on its age and worth, you might look into this option.

My camper I had that had the awning fly up was white also.........I called the dealer and his guy said to use exterior silicon caulking..............I know silicon is a no no now, but if you could find some white Dicor would work. I'd mask the area off.......spread it so that you kind of recreate the texture up there now and then peel up the tape and let it settle and smooth itself out.

We came back from taking a walk and ours was sitting on the roof. Thank goodness no damage like yours. It bent where the awning poles store but that was it. I love having it out but it is more dang trouble than it is worth I think. I am thinking I need some extra staking on the ground.

Same thing happen to us in our pop-up a few years ago. I used a 2 part epoxy to fill holes ( 3/8" and 1/4"). Never leaked again. Buying a new awning sucked.
Your hole being 2" might require something more drastic.

Jeez, and I thought I was lucky when I saw that the awning was not damaged. I think before I get the insurance company involved I will go by the dealers office and see what they suggest. This popup is only a year old I'd hate to see it get even more messed up. It was only the 2nd time I've had it out, hopefully I get better with it.

Yes, I took it to the dealer before contacting insurance and they told me a new roof was in order. They were not going to repair it and be responsible for issue afterwords. They said "I" could silicone it, but they think it would only be temporary. It was basically a crack and a small hole. I was defiantly stoked. It was new enough, 4 years, that I called insurance in hopes they would take care of it.

Thanks for all the input guys, just came back from the dealers, and after talking to a tech there he suggested I use dicor tape. got it in white as trevor43 suggested. He said if I were to bring in there that's what he would use to repair it. And he said it lasts. I also had to pick up some Velcro strips for under the bed slide outs. Seems like every time I pull the tent fold material from under the bed slide out, the Velcro tears or comes unstapled. man between that and putting a hole in the roof, and my black plastic roller slides coming out, I think I'm going to get turned in for camper abuse.

Thanks muddauber some of those were pretty funny. My wife said after our 1st 2 camping trips, maybe we should go back to tenting we are just being too rough on the camper.

Thanks coot, I was thinking about using them. when my awning blew off this weekend, I had it attached to the camper not in the ground. I do have the tent peg stakes that came with the camper, but wasn't sure if they would hold in the ground. But those screw in stakes look like they should hold.
