We had a Yakima rack system put on our popup.
The installer can tell you if you need a post system or full rails.

Once you put on the rack, you can customize how you want.
We had to go with full rails because we put on a skybox and 4 bike holders.

I would think you would need something that clamps to the outside rails. you would not want to the weight to ever be on the roof itself.

Kayak rack

Hello, I don’t have a tent trailer but I do have a Flagstaff Aframe that I had the dealer install a rack on the roof to carry my kayak. It’s a SportRack designed for tent trailers we installed two pairs of Yakima Hully Rollers that make loading much easier. However, the plastic brackets that hold the Hully Rollers to the bracket will not fit the SportRack so you will need to fabricate your own brackets. I suppose most people will mainly be interested in the rack itself rather than the cradles I have pictures in my photo album and will be posting pictures with the kayak on the roof shortly.

The link for the SportRack is

www.sportrack.com

Hope this helps.

thanks for the info. I'm not sure what we'll do next year. We may put a roof rack on our minivan. I want to keep an eye on how much weight I'll be adding with rack/kayaks.

thanks Joe
