Roof sag?

We have been having problems with the door on our hw27ks. The bottom of the frame has been popping out of the door area. I noticed that the real problem is at the top. The roof is sitting on the left side of the frame and sits normal on the right side. The pup is level front to back & side to side. Click image for larger version

Not sure my hw276 roof sits the same but I have notice we have to push the bottom of the door in and have my wife lock it in on the inside. I also noticed the framing at the bottom is starting to come away. Going to have the dealer look at that next week hopefully.

I had problems with my door fitting correctly if my stabilizer jacks lifted the camper any at all.......it will make the box twist and thus the door will not fit correctly. Since then I have leveled the camper and then just put the stabilizer jacks down until they touched the ground and stopped.

Trevor43, I level it prior to putting the stabilizers down, too. As you do, the stabilizers just touch the ground 😕

Just noticing your tent material..........how far are you raising the roof?, far enough that the cord in the front corner just goes tight?

Good point, and if a powerwinch is used, is it raising the roof high enough to make the cord go tight?

I had to readjust my upper limit switch on the powerwinch a few weeks ago.

Only thing I can think of is next time you lower the roof..........stop about 3 inches from the bottom and measure at each corner......they should all fall within 1/4 " of each other.

I'm not familiar with your model but when I was a service tech we adjusted cables on Coleman's all the time. Over time cables will stretch. There was a small box under the trailer called a wiffle tree. This is where all four cables met and where the adjustments were made. I don't know if this helps but the first place you would notice this is at the door. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my HW256. There was a noticeable sag of the roof edge from front to back. It was just something I learned to live with. I doubt there is a fix.

I do not understand how this problem can develop as pop ups tend to spend most of their time closed up and the roof edge is resting on the side wall. I get it if the pop up was up all season and the weight to the A/C unit was pushing down. Then the 12'+ span between the corners could enable sag.

I hope my 16' box roof does not develop this as well but I suspect it will.

I am planning on adding roof braces crosswise to support the roof better to stop the center from sagging. I wonder if I could run some plate metal along the inside as well to give support to the wood. My understanding is that the sidewalls are basically just plywood.

What happens if you raise the top set ur door and put the bracing on the cross corners then lower the top? I think that might hurt the door but not sure.

The roof on my 2014 HW296 is sagged in the middle over 4 inches. You can see the crazy amounts of water that accumulates. Dealer told me it's normal.

My door does the exact same thing too.

Corey,

I will be installing roof braces this year so that does not happen to my unit. I do not want 4" of sag. I do not care if it is normal. You are just asking for problems when water is allowed to pool on the roof.

Agreed!! How do you install roof braces? I've been thinking about it but a little too scared to dig into the camper any more than I already have.

I plan on using 2" aluminum fence post to span the width of the roof and simple L brackets to hold it flush. There is a good post on it someplace. I will try to find it.

It is very easy to do. Hardest part is mental angush in drilling the bolt hole in the side board of the roof.

Also see this thread.

Our 2005 Rockwood High Wall Project, lots of photos!

The discussion on the roof brace begins on Page 5 I think.
