Securing Power items
Wanted to secure my power stuff and came up with this. The long cable wraps around the spoke in the wheel.

It's terrible that one would have to do something to secure items when camping, I would have never thought about it until I was told by someone camping that their stuff was stolen twice.

Cable thieves
Seems the scrap hunters found out how much copper is in a 25 power cord. Sad!

There have many people that have respect for others sites and gear. The favorite parks we frequent are pretty safe and nothing ever goes missing. My experience is when the group of young people with 1 tent that sleeps 4 and 8 on the site get into some wobbly pops they get their nerve up.

secured
I always lockup my progressive power box (at 200 clams it is locked up). I use a master lock that just fits the diameter of the cable. You can buy multiple locks keyed alike just match the codes on the back of the multi packs. One key fits all... When we day trip away from base camp if its not inside it has a bike cable and one of these locks!
I'll give you the shirt off of my hairy back, but you going to see a little less christ'en side of me if you feel entitled to my things and I catch ya. Strange, never locked up anything in 25 yearz riding the harley....

Well if they are looking for scrap, then those steel cables shown are not going to do squat. I could cut the cords at the plugs with my pocket knife. Might take about a minute or two.
It's like the Honda generator people use cables that attach to the top handle and the trailer and are surprised to find out a pocket knife can cut through the handle in a minute or two. That's why they have the steel bracket that fits on the handle to stop theft from a common knife. (Seen one cut that way.) Now the thief has to carry a hacksaw.

I have steel covers on my Honda handles and a big cable/lock. I also have dog run cable for sat dish and solar panels. Not meant to stop, just slow down so I can get a good aim.

All the cables and chains are for naught, if they want it, it's theirs and you won't know it until after it's gone. So, just save your time and money.
Besides that, if you have to lock everything, you need to find another campground.

Cables will slow down the spur of the moment thief; those that cruise campgrounds with bolt cutters will get it in a second.
And be careful about the aim, hard to justify shooting someone for stealing a generator that is outside your actual domain. Might work in TX
As for campground? Many of us prefer to camp where there are not a million people, but on occasion have people drive around that don't belong there.

Ha ha, f5moab
You may be right about shooting someone for stealing. Though, hmmmm....many of the places I visit (Nevada/California deserts) have some very deep holes in them. They might not be found for decades or more.

Ice would cost too much, maybe a large trash bag?

Strap to the roof. Body bags are a lot thicker in mils than any garbage bag and smells permeate those.
Wow, did we ever get off subject fast.....

My better half is always saying lock up, I'm always saying don't worry about it. My theory, locks only stop honest people. Most campers are good people.
This reminds me of a story. About 5 years back at the start of my divorce I was staying at my father's house. He kept getting mad when I forgot to lock the house when leaving. One day he left and 15 minutes later I came home. In that 15 minutes someone broke in taking the tv and jewelry (maybe total value of a couple grand, stepped over gun cases holding 20 grand in value). Upon police inspection there were no prints on door handle, just a big boot print. So much for locking the doors dad lol.

I got everything from Lowes, the cable and connectors are reasonably priced.
