Sick of dealing with Awnings......
Some of you may remember my saga that I have been dealing with the Awning on my Rockwood 2514G, so I will keep the back story short. Basic gist is that the original Dometic was a piece of garbage, and when it broke the second time we wanted to replace it with a better unit. We settled on the Carefree of Colorado, because we had one on our old camper, and we were very happy with it.
Straight out of the box, the new one came with a bad seam in it and had to be returned before it was even used or fully set up. Now I finally get the replacement for the replacement of the replacement installed. See the attached pictures.
With the poles fully extended, the highest I can get the awning is about 5' 8", which is way too low for a family of people over 6' tall. I realize I can stand the legs on the ground, but the whole point was keeping the legs off the ground so the dogs would not get wrapped up in them. I have also found that carport style to be more effective in securing it for wind as well.
My question is, is this normal? It seems to be pulling the roof over quite a bit as well. Did I do something wrong? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thing of just going without at this point......

My carefree goes a lot higher than that, Even so, I usually put the arms on the ground and I also use 4 tie downs to make sure it does not leave me without an awning.. You might check with the company, you might have gotten shorter arms.. as well as a bad seam.

At this point, I think that staking them to the ground will be the easiest solution. I was trying to avoid that because of the dogs hooking them with the leash, but I'm really sick of playing musical awnings.

We use two portable doggy fences hooked together for our Chihuahuas and it works great for them, I don't know how big your dogs are so it might not be good for you.

I used to have a carefree on my last pop up also and loved it. I remember the beam being higher than what yours is.
To me it looks like you mounted the bracket too high on the camper. It almost looks like the angle is too shallow and the telescoping poles are just going out away from the camper and not upwards enough.
I am sure you followed the directions but given how it is, I wonder if moving the brackets lower would give it a better angle to force the roof higher. It also comes with a second set of supports also if I remember. Those can be used to go straight down in addition to the angle you have now. Those downward ones will move it higher but I understand your dog situation.
My new camper has the crappy Domestic on it and I too will be going to a carefree once the Domestic awning dies.

We looked into moving the brackets lower, but that would have made it worse. Makes sense, as the awning is really just a big triangle in carport mode. After I took the picture, we released the arms from the brackets and moved them around, it really didn't make much difference. The only thing that would help is longer arms, making me wonder if I did get the wrong ones.
I originally had wanted to put the brackets lower, but there isn't much behind the skin of the camper to anchor them to.
The rail on top was factory installed.

It appears that the width (dist out from PUP) is too large. A smaller width would result in the outer edge being higher.

That's what I was thinking. It's awfully long for a PUP.

So how would we change that? The COC awning only comes in 8' lengths, except the ones that are much narrower.

You can take to a local awning /boat canvas shop and ask them to cut some off. Ask them which end is easiest to cut/rework ( rope seam on trailer side or the outside edge. A good wind and the PUP could end up in Kansas.

How far out from the PUP does it go? It looks like about 10 feet. Did you tell them it was a PUP when you ordered it? We had a big Carefree on our old highwall, but it didn't stick out that far...

It looks about normal to me for the width out. Photos can be deceiving. What is your thought on this? Does it feel a lot longer than your old domestic? Can you visit a local campground with a tape measure and measure a few.
As far as I know, the bad awnings are primarily made for pop ups. You just do not see people in TT's or 5th using a bag awning.
This is so screwy. It is a simple triangle but something seems off.
I wish I could help more. At this stage I would pull it to a large campground and talk to others about it. I also would measure others poles, awnings, etc. Try to get as many measurements of the triangle as possible.

The easiest fix would be to have the material shorter ... that would pull the support arms up and back.

Do you have to unroll the hole awning ???
Not clear to me what type of awning it is ???

Do you still have door clearance from the awning? The Dometic awning we have will be caught by the door if we don't have the legs on the ground. Thanks to this, we have a pin sized hole above the door :-(
