Sink discharge

Where can I find rules for Sink discharge. 18 years of tent camping and going first time with my new pup on Memorial weekend. Only waste water is from sink. Do I have to contain it or run off with hose. Camping national forest with no hookups. (Boondocking)?

Look up "grey water discharge" most states will fine for discharge on ground . Not all, have a look.

Yes, you have to contain gray water and empty at the dump station...not on the ground. Most campgrounds will eject you for dumping it on the ground.

Yikes. I take it gray is sink and black is the other. Best to by one of those changes on containers on wheels? Another item to carry. Well, I want to conform.

Some just use a bucket carried to washroom. Not that much grey water. On ground can become quite a smelly science project......,

I used one of these 5 gal ones for 20 years on my Coleman Sequoia popup.

Barker Tanks 5GALTT

10 gal would have been nicer (dump fewer times), but storage would be more difficult.

Keep it clean and store it right under the dinette table while you travel. You can dump it straight down the toilet if the bathhouse/outhouse is closer than the dump station. (Same with your porta-potty.)

I've seen the 11 gallon ones with wheels. Smallest I've seen.

Barker makes a blue tote tank specifically made for popups.

I have had a 5 gallon bucket from Lowes, I cut a hole in a lid that fit the bucket, and threaded the sink waste hose into the lid. I dump the bucket into the site sewer when it fills. I've tried a few things, but the hose won't drain across the ground too far. It needs the gravity from the sink to the ground to push it. I have a popup with no hot water or bathroom, just a sink. I use Hot water from a pot on the stove, and hook up a garden hose with a splitter to rinse things off.

After a few years of use, even gray water is pretty rank. Ask anyone who has sloshed their shower trap empty on a rough road; then left the camper closed up for a few days.

Have a 5 gallon jug from my water cooler. Can just drain a hose into it.

I can't pick it up with no handle, the bucket is easier to pour out.

My bottles have handles. Culligan style. I like your bucket idea.

The (Rules?) are the same if camping (Any place). Gray Water , (1) dump at (Gray water Only) locations, (2) dump down Pit toilet, (3) keep in container and dispose of elsewhere-legal,(4) look left, look right, you know the rest! Youroo!!

You can solve this problem by venting the hose at the discharge fitting. I simply drilled a hole in the top of my hose to let air in and now the water runs downhill as far as it needs to.

You will get fined if they find you draining any tank on the ground. This is a quote from another site:“THE RULE”

Never, never, never dump grey or black water on the ground….especially black water! Black water is raw sewage is a bio-hazard. I’m reminded of the time I was staying in a park and someone dumped their black tank water on the ground. When management “caught wind” of this…they called 911 because they are required to do so by law. Well, about 5 snappy minutes later a HAZMAT team arrived on the scene, all dressed up in their HAZMAT gear, they cordoned off the area and evacuated part of the park so they could clean up the “bio-spill”.

I was looking for grey water disposal solutions today and came across this blog post that includes pictures and thoughts for different types. This person has tried several different methods over the years (including wheeled containers) and settled on 2 Aqua-tainers in a series.

Saw this one too. This person more or less permanently plumbed their grey water outs. I like it, but I probably won't go to this length yet:

I strap a 5 gallon bucket to the tounge, with a screw on lid. 1" hole in lid and short piece of hose, and doubles as a handy place for wheel chocks when time to go. $20 foldup dolley from menards makes long trips to greywater dump easy.
