Steps for an old dog?

No really he's an older German Shepard. He cannot climb up to our slide out beds in our 2010 Flagstaff 206LTD. I usually pick him up and plop him on the smaller bed but in the middle of the night he wants to sleep by me but cannot jump down. His hips are not as good as they used to be. Any thoughts on a step of some kind to access both large and smaller beds in this camper. Thanks so much in advance. I love my dog Baxter and the PUP. Baxter thanks you in advance too.

Our siberian uses a 12" wide carpet covered ramp.i originally made it,and still use it for her to get in the truck cab(she was blind at the time) we got her catarc surgery so now she sees fine but still insists on useing the ramp! She doesnt like stairs so we have what we call a doggie disability ramp at the back porch.

I'm in the same boat as you with my doggies. Still haven't decided how to remedy my situation.

<== Also in the same situation. Have a 14 yr. old Dalmatian mix that has trouble with stairs. Tried a dog ramp for entry into the camper and doggie stairs for the bed, wouldn't use either. I just consigned myself to pick her up every time she wants in the camper or bed (usually at 10pm bedtime and 2am wimper alarm).

x2. Our Shiba is having some issues with stiffness and we'd love some insight and ideas.

I have a similar but different problem. Similar in the fact my dogs can not get on the couch or bed with out help, different in that mine are little Yorkies. Easy to pick up but have a mind of their own and want to jump down, I don't need a broken leg or two. Need something small for the TT bedroom. Any ideas?

My dog wouldn't use the doggie steps. I bought an adjustable height step aerobic step. Got it a few years ago at Dicks sporting goods. You squeeze the ends and the legs go up and down to various heights like a car jack. We use it outside as well so it acts like a front stoop and makes going in and out the door easier as swell for all of us

Fortunately my two bigger dogs I have now are all right in the hip department, but I'm still concerned with blown ACL's (many times caused by jumping). I used steps for my dogs to get into my Ford Escape. When I bought my (larger) Explorer the steps were too low so I bought a ramp. I've read where ramps are better than steps for hip problems. BEWARE--the first ramp I bought was not long enough (too steep for the dogs)...but yours will be for the bed, so you may not need too long of a one.

I hear you on the ACLs. My lab has bionic rear legs from blown ACLs. $5K later and several operations, she does fine but has her bad days!

Ok. I am an "old dog" with 2 legs...
Have trouble with steps, especially the last one being steep entering the coach. Added a grab bar outside the door but one at the top, inside would be helpful... But don't a secure place to place it

DW has had double knee surgery. Bought a set of al Porta Steps for her. These fit over the tt steps, top step is extended to double width, instead of 3 steps to enter the tt we now how 4. The steps come with a removal handrail. The steps fold down to 12 inches high an 24 inches wide. Not cheap, but keeps us in the rving lifestyle. Google porta step for the site. Site has pics of the different models, pricing and shipping. Also a short utube link for the 3 minute install and how to adjust bottom step. DW loves them as it removed over 2 inches on the riser. Bought a carry pvc truck box from Pep Boys to carry them in. Was able to copy link

My dog is 14 years old. Tore his left rear ACL jumping out of the motorhome last fall. Vet says no more steps. Bought a plastic, lightweight folding ramp from Amazon. He slipped too much to get up it. Then went to Home Depot and bought non skid strips and glued them to ramp. Problem is solved.

Yes--I had to add carpet to my ramp too. The original surface was like sandpaper--the dogs slipped and panicked on it. I bought a couple cheap outdoor carpet mats at Ollie's and trimmed and glued them to the ramp.
