Towing Question

I tow my HW 27KS with a 2006 4Runner. With a standard 2" drop ball mount, the pup tows very tongue low. I haven't had any issues, but it is in no way level. Has anyone reversed their ball mount from a 2" drop to 3/4" rise? I thought about doing this, but my sway control is already mounted for the right side.

The factory ball mount (I use Curt products) advises to only reverse the ball mount on V8 models. Not sure why that matters.

What's the best set up so that I am level while towing?

Thanks

If I remember, my HW277 was about 450 tongue. I preferred a little dip in my set up. If you can, get an adjustable ball mount as I ended up buying 3 mounts over time as I tried to dial in better with each trip.

Might try this ball for the hitch you have. Its on etrailer.com $13.99

2" Hitch Ball - 2" Rise - 1" Diameter x 2-1/8" Long Shank - 6,000 lbs

Curt Balls

If that will not raise trailer to your liking, you might have to get different receiver hitch to meet your needs.

Good luck

This looks like what I could use. I just wonder if there would be an issue with the smaller sway control ball being two inches lower than the main hitch ball. Would this affect the operation of the sway control arm?

I know the below image from a Curt video is hard to see, but by doing this measurement, I have zero rise or drop. Thus, with the current two inch drop ball mount, the ball suggested with a two inch rise would work perfectly. It would basically zero me out. From the ground to the top of the receiving tube is 20 1/4 " and same for the pup.

Set your ball mount to proper height you need then cut and weld the Sway arm on the other side! Youroo!!

Or remove the sway bar ball that is on the camper tongue and mount it on the opposite side. Flip the tow ball and sway ball on the tow vehicle over. This will save you from cutting off and re welding the short sway ball arm

(I have two sway bars on my camper, one on each side of the tongue)

Etrailer advised the main ball being two inches higer that the sway arm ball would not be an issue. I have ordered the Curt ball with a two inch rise. We will see how that works out. If not, thanks for all of the suggestions.
