Upgrade awning

Hello again all!

I have a rockwood premier 2516g and the awning is sorta cheap. I've seen awnings that are crank or electric. Is it possible to upgrade the awning system? Has anyone out there done this with a similar or the 2516g model?

Thx

Ben

Very unlikely to go from a manual to an electric . They mount totaly different so unsightly holes may be an issue.

from what i know, from owning popups, they aren't like awning on other RV's.
they aren't mechanical, they simply drop out of a long pouch and pull out like a tarp.
you have to use straight poles to support it.

i've never seen the normal type of awning, that's on most RV's, on a popup.

but the last popup i owned, was a 1993 Viking.

X2.

But I do miss the zip up case on that type of awning.

the new anwings on the trailers are extremely cheap made. The arms are paper thin compared with the older models from the eighties, and I am very dissapointed with the quality of mine. Locking clips are almost brokens because they are made of plastic instead of a nice metal locking clip that I had on my formers trailers.

OP could just leave the lower brackets on the trailer or cut them down or just make alum plates and polish them.

the OP has a popup, which don't have traditional manual or electric awnings.
they have an awning in a bag:

they don't have support arms attached to the trailer nor are they on a roller.
they're basically a tarp attached to the side of the trailer that gets pulled and has straight poles that support the far end.

i've never seen a popup with a traditional spring roller awning on it.

The manual and electric awnings that are on travel trailers and fivers are far too heavy for a pop-up's roof. It would cause the roof to lean to the point the door would gap, and possibly break the latches that hold it. Even the standard issue, lightweight, "tarp-in-a-bag" awnings can cause door alignment problems if the legs are attached to the side of the camper, instead of on the ground.

Speaking of the quality of the awning......my 2516g is 5 months old and yesterday I was prepping the camer for a trip this weekend and found where at the top of the bag...the white plastic strip that is sewn into the bag that allows it to be mounted onto the camper is splitting at the stitching in the center. I have contacted House of Camping where I bought this in May........I'm waiting to see what their verdict is.

Trev

We are having some issues with screws and stitching too. Trying to find some time to take my 2516G to camping world for repairs.

I agree with Capucine as to the quality of the Trimline awnings on the pups. the first breeze that came up took ours out and now I have had to repair the framework. No warranty because of "wind damage". The breeze was 10-15 mph and no gusts. Awning was set up right and staked down but the pot metal is so flimsy that the rivet on one side pulled out. We now stake down with guy wires as well as the stake down d rings on the uprights.

Any special reason on why the replacement parts are so expensive? $110 for ONE pole? Really? Just like everyone else, a small gust caught the awning and sheared off the rivet at the top of the pole.

REPAIR TIP: copper piping reducers at Home Depot work excellent at the tops of the poles and secure them with the screw rivet things. Total cost for a pair : $7
