Hum, that plunger switch never turned off my roof lift motor in my Hw277. My lift motor would run until I released the toggle on the motor itself. Maybe a difference in the years, mine was a 2010.

Switch only turns off lift motor coming down. Going up you have to release toggle while cable is loose, the bump the toggle to get tension just right.

we had a popup for over ten years, always kept it clean and stored in the winter inside and covered in the summer when not in use. WE always made sure it was dry when we folded it up and Never ever had stale or damp musty smell if fact when we traded it in the dealer said wow it still smelled like new. I think you may be over thinking a problem most of the time its because a popup is put up wet when you have a problem

I have verified while top is down the canvas top is just below, so the fan wouldn't pull anything and probaby burn up. So the safety switch saves some of us ftom ourselves.
But correctly stated above, put it up clean and dry and good porice dues and care with grey and black water and never a smell.
If I didn't have this forum for answers don't know what I'd do.
Can't imagine waiting on answers from manf or dealer service call back.
