Water filter hw296

Anyone know what the part number is for the water filter that is under the cabinet in rockwood hw296 bought this and it doesn't have the filter

Don't know the part number but I once replaced it and it was pricey. I got it from my Rockwood dealer. I have since removed the internal filter and housing and now just use an external filter.

I agree with Gales. The removal of that inside filter is a common mod as if that container breaks off, you will have a small flood. Your most cost effective method is to purchase the external water filters that connect outside.

I picked up a whole house filter at Home depot for $30 (link) and swapped
out the factory one.

The GE filter has a bypass/shutoff valve so when you need to change the
filter you can just turn it off. When winterizing, I can switch to bypass
and do not need to fill the drained housing with antifreeze. Less to flush
out in the spring as well.

It is taller but it does fit with just enough room to change the filter.

I use an inline filter that screws onto the water hose. Cheap (about $20.00)and when it goes bad, just replace with a new one,
