Water Heater?

I flip the water heater on and the red reset comes on. What should I do? It heats once and no more. I turn propane off after each trip. I also have twin tank set up with a twist dial connector on them. I don't sell propane and accessories so someone smart help please.[emoji3] [emoji3]

You say the red reset comes on.. Do you mean the red LED? It should come on when you first turn on the switch and then go out if the fire to the heater ignites. If the fire does not ignite the red LED will remain on indicating a problem.

Why would it not come on anymore during the time we are camping?

Hello, Can you supply a picture of what you have for a water heater. Also year and make of trailer. A little more information might help.

From your description of the problem sounds like you are talking about the auto switchover on the tanks going red.

Yes, more details would help tremendously in troubleshooting exactly what the problem is (if there is one). I know it's hard sometimes to accurately describe something, especially when you know the problem, but others are kinda guessing from patchy descriptions.

If you have the the Suburban water heater this may help, as I kinda have a feeling you may have the electric heating element on, and thus once the propane brings the initial water up to temp, then the electric element is maintaining it...thus why the propane doesn't NEED to come back on.

But here again, this is just a guess based off of incomplete data from the OP.

Did you run out of hot water?

Suburban is what I have and yes we ran out of hot water. The heater never came back on. Only thing I did since last year is winterized it. Could I have the knobs turned wrong?

That's entirely possible but wouldn't be the cause of everything you have thus described. The valves are discussed in post #3 of the link I provided above.

So it would be hot at first then cool or warm after that? I believe that is the problem.

Yes, but your propane should kick back on, after you use so much hot water and the thermostats call for more heat. You stated it never comes back on.

Anyhow, I would make sure of the valves as per in the link above or here:

Start eliminating the easy stuff, then go from there.

If valves are in winterize you are not drawing any water from the tank.. It is bypassed. You are heating what ever water was left from when you winterized

I will open it up and try things this week. I appreciate the help. Will update the findings

All valves where open. I corrected it. Will give it a try this weekend and update after that.

So both hot cold and bypass was open. So hoping this was my problem.

Crossover/bypass should be closed...while the hot and cold valves are open.

With the bypass open, then it was allowing cold water into the hot water line.(bypassing the water heater)...thus when you were drawing hot water from the heater, you were also drawing cold water via the crossover/bypass.

And... likely the reason the water heater never kicked back on. (your original complaint)

It was drawing water through the bypass and the water in the heater remained hot because it never left the tank!
