Do you guys think it is better off to go with one large unit or two smaller ones? I see pros and cons for each. The larger one might be too heavy for older people to move, smaller ones are lighter, if one goes down you at least can power everything but the AC. Smaller could possibly have better fuel economy if you are only running lights. I can see actually putting the small ones inside the camper when traveling versus a truck bed (inside a plastic container then inside the camper to safeguard from oil or gas leaks/smells) What do you guys think is the best route to go?

Getting some "Wife Aggro" so quickly; 2 Honda 2000

OK, back. I have the Yamaha 3000SeB as most of you know. It has a trifuel mod (Gas, LNG, annd propane) and remote start. I really love it.

Runs the 15K AC and all 120VAC at the same time (except microwave). We just switch off the AC while the microwave is running and switch it back on after the popcorn is done.

If I had to do it over again, I think it would be an even harder choice, now. There are things I REALLY like about the Yamaha like:

The remote start! Have the coffee maker plugged in ready to go and at the end of quiet hours; I push the button on the fob and the generator starts and coffee starts brewing without getting out of bed.

Being able to jack into a propane bottle if I run out of gas for the generator.

Things I hate:

300 pounds.

Has to live in the truck and takes up a LOT of room.

The Hondas (both) give 4000 watts available if needed. Can only run the one when the AC is not required (95% of the time).

LIGHT

SMALL

Can use a Fuel Buddy to gas both generators at the same time from a 6 gallon tank.

Things I don't like:
No electric start > so no remote
Without a Fuel Buddy short run time

I got the Honda today. In short a side by side comparison of the two and the Honda wins by a small but noticeable margin in quietness both idling and under load. Starts and runs the 13500 AC without a hitch. Really impressed with how quiet the Honda is. That being said I would not hesitate to buy the Yamaha either.

this generator has been widely panned by the reviews i've read at RV.net.
plus, why buy two of them when you can't parallel them.

I have the Champion from Costco...had larger heavier louder generator (Alton) and also have a Honda (which is used eleswhere, not camping) Decided the Champion was a close inexpensive (and just as quiet) match to the Honda and will only be used with the our Flagstaff A-frame... should handle the small needs of this trailer with no problem.

I had a battery problem (not even the light would come on for the stereo ) last weekend so decided to fire up the new champion 2000 from costco. (very quiet) So since it was running we decided to use the toaster. Later I discovered that I had left the fan on in the bathroom. So with the fan going, the battery charging (built in charger)and then adding the toaster it was too much for the 2000. The overload light came on and I had to restart the generator. It would not put out enough to keep up. I had the trailer (25' cord ) and a good extension cord to get from the generatorto the back.
I didn't think I was expecting too much but

DuroMax RV Grade 4400 Watt 7.0 Hp Gas Generator w/ Electric Start & Wheel Kit XP4400E free shipping. 399$

I used mine to build the boss her garden shed before we ran power out there last fall. Runs smooth and fairly quiet. We got the elite model vs this one linked.

69db is NOT quiet.
Maybe compared to a jet engine.

that 69db is at the muffler.
Generally I try not to stick my ears next to the muffler.

"Honda's Super Quiet portable generators feature exhaust and muffler technology that give them lower noise ratings within the 48-60" (off their site.)

If I'm in the trailer watching TV and talking with friends over a couple cold beverages I won't notice that 9db difference.

BUT I will feel a $2000 difference because my wallet will be a lot thicker

Why Buy a Honda Generator?

I know where you are coming from, MilCop. If you are boondocking and your nearest neighbor is no where close, those open gennies are fine.

But just FYI, that is 69db at 20' for that DuroMax. Who knows what it would be like at the muffler. Ouch!

Most places we are at the kids yelling and screaming are drowning out that measured 69 db at the 20 feet. 10 other generators are also running some lower in noise, some higher.

Someone always has a boom box cranked listening to some techno or rap crap way above the 69dbs.

But definately the worst drowning out of the generator would be at a NASCAR track with 700HP plus cars running the track.

Quiet comes at a price. To me it is well worth it. It all depends on where you camp and what you can tolerate for noise. The difference between 49 decibels and 69 decibels is huge. I have been down both paths and there is really no comparison.

Loudness of normal adult human voice is about 70 db at three feet according to

What is decibel (dB)? definition and meaning

can't locate what a group of noisy adults or kids would be listening to that stereo during daytime hours but...
