Who here has raised/lifted their frame?
My Flagstaff dealer can flip the springs on my 228 to raise it 4". I'd appreciate the extra bumper clearance to clear ruts and such getting into dispersed sites. I'm curious who here has done this and how it turned out.
Also, I would likely get a two-step entry step installed and then need to get a 8" rise out of my ball mount bar (currently have a 4" rise on with standard height of trailer). I'd also have to get some pads for the stabilizer jacks and possibly the tongue jack to account for the extra 4" of clearance.
Anything else I should think of?

Not to throw cold water on the idea, but I would take it to a reputable trailer welding shop that has done this before. They are much better equipped to do the job and have the expertise.

Why? All they will do is go from over slung to under slung, the axles have locating pads top and bottom not a tough job.

Don't know the particular axle on OP's trailer, but I've never seen mounting pads on top and bottom. If they only have pads for under slung springs, then they will have to add new pads or r & r the ones on the axle.

They'll probably just use an over under kit from Dexter and tack weld the seats to the top of the tube. A couple of hours work with the right tools. It should add 5", not four. That's what every one that I've seen got from flipping the axle.

I have a 228. I'm debating doing the same. The manufacturer put ST185's on instead of the ST175's as the 175's don't have the load capacity, but in turn I rub on large bumps. I want to out the spring over the axle also and put 14" tires on. Just wondering if the trailer will tow different or sway. I have no problems towing now.
I just new to weld new axle perches on and move the axle to below the springs. Not a large job. Will the stabilizer jacks reach the ground with the lift?

It may tow a little differently, and you will have to change your hitch height.
The stabilizers may not reach...

I did this to my rockwood 2316g. I had a shop put a sprung over 5100 pound axel under it that gave it 5" lift and added new springs for a additional 3" lift all to clear 33/12.5/15" tires. They welded on fifth wheel stabilizer jacks to all 4 corners and a large tire under the tongue jack. It tow's great has a little drag because of the large tires but ok. The tongue tow height sits at 27" of the ground to sit level. Oh also they reinforced the frame for the tires to. All of this added about 600 pound to the trailer weight though that is the reason for the bigger axel.
So it's a lot more the just flipping the spring mounts, you also need to look at the wheel bearings, will they take to stress of the bigger tires and can the frame handle the added pressure. Add my mistake was the hitch height I need to lower mine some how. Just to high you need a truck with a 6" lift and a 4" drop hitch flipped just to tow level. Any thoughts on how to fix this I would appreciate it, thank you.

I had a 30' camper trailer that set entirely too low. I had the axles flipped at a utility trailer (build) shop, where they had all the needed equipment to keep them aligned as the welded the new plates. Loved the results and never had any trouble from the flip.

You can always have the shop add a dropped tongue to get the hitch back to the normal 18"-20" height.

2013 Windjammer 3006WK with a new riser kit installed. Prior to, the distance between the top of the tire and the wheel well was about a finger. This is much better, but I have yet to tow it with the new kit installed.

Well I did the "axle flip". I also added 4 spring leafs, from the stock 3, and I put 14" tires on. I got a total of 5.5" to 6" of rise. I had to add new stabilizer jacks, and I had to put a new double step on. The 2" ball mount is now 26" off the ground to tow level. I have not towed it yet, as it's still snowing and cold here. Now I need to find a new place for my BAL tire leveler.

Mine has about 4.5" of lift, and I'm running 215x70 15 tires. So far, have not dragged it on anyplace I have taken it; I have taken into some hard to reach places.
Dealer did the flip, added the longer stabilizers, dual tanks and batteries. Also installed a set of 205x75 14 ST tires. However, after multiple flats due to sharp rocks when taken off the beaten path, I went up to the 215x70 15 Yokohama tires which exceed the required weight limit of the trailer when fully loaded (and I never fully load it).
The Yokohamas track very well, and even with a 50 mph cross-winds, there is little to no sway in the trailer.

After bending a stab jack going over a rough road (and thinking we'd missed that rock!), we had our dealer raise our Rockwood HW 276, and since then have had no trouble. (I know this message is late to the dance, but thought I'd chime in anyway.) When we get a TT at the end of this camping season, we'll have it raised, too, 'cause those roads aren't getting any smoother. Whether we have the dealer or our "RV guy" raise the TT will depend on where we get it.

Having another 4-5" of height would be great. As it is now, I am in the market for a 9" drop shank. The new TV is too high and I need to drop it down. It would be great if I could raise the pop up. that however seems a bit more expensive. I also do now have leaf springs. I think I would have to block the axle some how.

I ended up capturing a bit of the details with my frame raising at Raising Your Frame | Popup Camping 101 if anyone is interested.

You also gain some more lift, that includes the axle, if you go to bigger tires. I gained, basically, another 1.5" of lift when I increased tire size by an overall diameter of 2.9 inches.
Stock tires: 175x80 13 24" Dia
Dealer installed larger tires: 205x75 14 26.1" Dia
My installed tires: 215x70 15 26.9" Dia

Steamboatscott's pix were interesting - I didn't know that about "flipping the axle." Our unit doesn't have springs, so we have to do it the other way. And we did, because we mangled a stab jack on the roads where we camp. We plan to have it done straightaway on our next unit.
