Bugs bugging the Dog (and me)!

We are new to camping with our dog and she seems to love being outdoors with us all day but the bugs really love her! I'm not sure how much she is really bothered I think it probably bothers me more but I feel bad when they are swarming her face and butt. Any tips to help this problem?

Avon Skin So Soft spray

Works so well I bought a case of the smaller (spray) bottles on eBay.

Edit: obviously you shouldn't spray straight into the facial area...I spray a paper towel and wipe it on. Recommend doing the same thing around the "other end".

I do spray it directly on the body area fur....lightly.

Sneak and I use it on our arms, legs, wipe on face, etc. Works great to keep the skeeters at bay. They're vicious 'round here!

Is there an odorless version of that now? I swear my Dad's mom used to, and now HE does it, practically bathe in that stuff. Can't walk into Dad's house without my eyes watering and my nose burning.

As evidenced by my signature line, I ain't no spring chicken any more....I just don't wanna "smell old" too!

Additionally, our Fred sleeps with us....do NOT want that scent on the bedding.

The smell imo is strong at first "peppermint maybe" but goes away fairly quickly.

I actually dont mind the aroma!
I might smell worse without it!

I was confused when I looked up what that was since it said a muscle relaxant? Is it the scent that keeps the bugs away?

I sprayed my dogs last weekend with cutter. Seemed to work very well as the gnats disappeared.

There was an espisode on Texas Country Reporter (a show that goes around Texas visiting small towns and the people that live in them) that showed 2 women that lived in the country that collected dried cow/cattle manure patties.

They would "bake" the manure in the sun and then package the patties in various size packages.

They claim that if a patty is lit it repels Mosquitos for up to 20 minutes. Looks like they were doing a good business.

Maybe my ancestors were on to something; they burned buffalo chips.

And they're good for chapped lips, too.

May not heal them, but will keep you from licking them. lol
