Built-in dog bed?

We think we'll be getting a Rockwood 2304 KS at the end of this camping season. We haven't been able to see one in person yet, but have pored over floor plans and pix online. It looks like we could remove one of the drawers under the dinette and refit the opening for a kennel for our Westie. Has anyone tried this with any spaces other than bunks?

I would think it could get hot under there, I don't think there would be much airflow just removing the drawer. I'd look for a spot to put a small plastic crate on.

Our standard gets the run of the trailer just like at home, but she's a bit bigger too. Hope you enjoy whatever you end up choosing.

I see what you mean about hot. The front would be crate-like, for airflow, and it would only be for sleeping. There's a cloth kennel for the car and a wire one for outdoors. Just no place, really, for either crate inside, so trying to come up with another place for Drammy to sleep. He's used to a "den" and we don't really want a burrowing thing in bed with us. ;-) During the day, yes, run of the house.

Also, we have a battery fan that we use for him at home during the Summer, and could bring that along, for sure.

I've seen where someone handy had taken and installed a kennel under the corner of the master bed... you may lose some storage but it shouldn't get that warm. Have also seen an RV with an optional kennel.

We have a sunseeker however the bunks only hold 6 of our 7 crates. We keep a soft sided crate under the dinette with the door open so Flash can go in it when he wants to. They actually all take turns snoozing in the back of it. The rest of the motorhome has dog beds spread out and they pick their place.

I think the dinette drawer location would be a bit tight heightwise and definitely very poor airflow even with the grate door. We gave up on a crate in the fiver for our crate trained boxer/American bulldog mix. We lock him in the master bedroom when we leave. I put his bed between our bed and the wall to give him a den like feeling.

I was thinking the same thing for our pup. I can see that ventilation might be an issue. I looked up your floor plan and it looks like you could cut the side of the cabinet and put in a vent color matched to the cabinet. That would give you the door and the side for ventilation.

Your right the drawer/storage cabinet could of been cut. I only had it for a berthing bed for Tali.
