dog packs
I have a decision to make and not sure what to do.
I moved in with my GF she has two 60 lb dogs I have one 45 lb dog
my dog has been camping and likes to go camping he is friendly and I can control his barking. The last two camping trips we took her two dogs along with mine. Her male barks, growls and snaps at people & the old female has to be with the GF or she whines & barks doesn't want to chained up & is afraid of any strange noises.
After the last trip I told GF that her two are not going anymore because I'm not taking any chances her male dog is going to bite someone and I'm not going camping to do nothing but watch the dogs.
She took it pretty well at first. Now she came up with if we take my dog camping and not hers it's going to cause friction between the 3 dogs when we get home because they are a pack. I think this is B/S and want to take my dog but GF keeps saying we can't because it will upset her dogs if he is gone.
Has anyone heard this or is GF upset about her dogs not going?

Mike,
It sounds like you have a choice to make. As this is an RV Forum and not Dear Abbey I will try to keep it relevant.
1) Bad dogs at the campground are no joke. Kids run around like they own the place and have no fear of dogs since most camping dogs are friendly and quiet or they don't last long.
2) You have a life style choice to make. (Nuff said about this)
3) As far as the dogs are concerned; either kennel all three or stay home. Either your dog will hate you or your girl friend. You choose.
Good luck. The choice sucks.

had dogs all my life. The pack thing has some merit, but I would say try it. Take your dog camping for a weekend and see what happens when you return. Just curious, what will be done with the GF's two while you are camping? Chances are in fifteen minutes after you get back home, and all the appropriate sniffing is done, life will be all back to normal. You won't know if you don't try. Dogs don't think like humans do. And don't interfere with their reuniting ritual, seen that go bad to many times. Sniffing butts is nasty to us, but a necessity in the dog world!

X2 for what Lou says. Google "dog pack" and you will quickly find answers to your question.

There is no problem separating the dogs over the duration of a camping trip. And poorly-behaving dogs are definitely not welcome at any campground.
So take your dog and leave hers at the kennel, or get a new GF.
Simple as that.

We have 2 dogs and one large cat. But only Miya the Schnauzer goes camping with us on a regular basis. Tito (the other dog) has gone a time or two but was not really happy and you could tell it. He is not happy being on a leash or so confined all the time. At home he roams free. The joys of living in the country. We have camped from a night or two, to several weeks. Never had a problem with any of the animals. To me they seem happy to see each other again when Miya does come home.
