And the grazing, which invariably occurs when the grass gets too long. Dunno what it is about the lads munching the grass like sheep but round about 3 AM, give or take an hour, their digestive system expels that lawn salad like it had no business being there in the first place. Canine is known to eat grass when they're unwell but these are healthy, well-fed monster dogs!

Great thread. People should never feed their pets human food. They should only be fed food that is specifically produced for them. Anything else is just plain wrong.

Wonder how dogs existed before being domesticated?

I have a chocolate lab that is in much better health than I am! She only weighs about 70 pounds. According to the vet she is VERY healthy. There isn't a night that goes by that she doesn't clean my plate for me. Of course there are some things she doesn't get such as chocolate.

I try not to spoil her too much. I only let her take a half hour nap in my lap at night. Any longer and my legs go to sleep, LOL!

They killed and ate other animals; including their fat; they ate berries, but not sure how long they lived. A GOOD BRAND of dog food is definitely best for dogs; however, some small amounts of table scraps; other than grains, will not hurt them.

Another thing my dog would kill for is ice cream!! Had to quit buying chocolate because of her. She likes vanilla and cherry but to be honest, if I eat it so will she! She gets it but only in moderation.

She will kill for cheese balls or Jacks. 3 or 4 for me, 1 or 2 for her. I also give her large beef bones from a butcher shop. I have to watch her with them though, she can break them. I can't break them with a hammer but she can with her teeth. She amazes me! Vet says I am doing something right, said to don't stop.

Eventually, the bones will wear down the lower front teeth. My two are 8 and 11 now and I had to stop those marrow bones. They do get an occasional raw chicken wing or two as it helps scrape tartar from the back teeth.
