Keeping Pet Safe in Motorhome

A couple of days ago while coming home from a trip in our class c, a vehicle made a sudden stop in front and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid collision. Our 28 lbs dog was in the rear and took some hits as he slid forward. What's best practices for keeping a pet safe avoiding injury in these types of situations?
Thanks in advance,
Raul

I have a 55lb dog- when in the mh he wears a harness and a short leash the clips into the seat belt clipped into the sofa.

I had to do it because in my class a he loved to look at the windshield while driving- sometimes putting feet on dash. Too much of a distraction.

We keep ours in a kennel under the dinette when traveling. Can't go anywhere that way.

Also since she kennels up at night when home it gives her a place to go while camping. Keep it by the driver and passenger seats while camping.

My bulldog usually travels on the floor, between the front seats of the MH. Kind of a dummy... As he pants because he is hot... But chooses to lay right beside the engine.. Dum Dum..

Keeping pet safe

We just got our dog a harness, I did research and found the "Tru-Fit Smart harness Enhanced Strength" by Kurgo. I looked up the best restraints and picked this one. I got it for $26.99 from Petvalue. It is also sold on Amazon and other places.

Had a dog hit the windshield in my car when I was tail ended way back in 1998. Since then every dog has been harnessed & seatbelted in, cats / birds in carriers to travel.

Absolutely in a kennel, which in turn is anchored down either with bungees or in the current rig is encased under the bed. That did take a bit of remodeling, but no room anywhere else in this one.

One of the reasons we purchased a 32DS was the bunkhouse. We have all 3 crates on the lower area so they are secured while traveling. Even while driving my van, they are all crated. I know of people that were involved in accidents of varying degrees and some were not good outcomes for the people and/or pets. Better safe than sorry!

All are crated in the bunk area in our 3170. Crates ratcheted down.

Going to try the harness and tethering, if that's not the way to go for the Boston, I'll do the crate.

Thanks!
