Our Zoe a 14 year old golden with bad hips and going deaf...Dont think she can even make it up the steps and in the camper door anymore. But we are thankful for every day she has with us now. So I feel the pain of all.
Rest in peace

indeed they are, 10x

Last evening, while enjoying adult beverages outside our RV with two other couples, our Fred somehow backed out of his harness. Luckily DH saw him as he calmly went walk-about under the RV in the next space. (!)

We often say he's a four legged advertisement for Valium, so he didn't run when DH went after him, but it got us thinking;

What in the world would we do if we lost him while so far from home. There is no way we'd leave here without him...no way. We'd stay until we found him...jobs awaiting us back home be danged.

Yes, our pets are a gift, but it's a fragile thing, and so sad also that their life spans are so much shorter than ours.

We have a 15 year old cocker back home, stone deaf and cataracts developing quickly. Otherwise she's healthy as a horse. What will be her quality of life be if she loses her sight? She handles deafness like a pro...we've developed sign language with her. Tough decisions are on the horizon. And we know our Fred will be affected if she's no longer with us. She's been his Mom since he was two years old (when we rescued him from horrific conditions).

My heart aches for those of you who recently lost your camping buddies. I hope their spirits lead you to the next *perfect* camping companion "FID"....Kid With Fur...to fill that void. (hugs)

REST IN PEACE MAC 'MacKenzie'

DDC,

Saw this on a forum I frequent a bit ago, and thought of you. May it bring you comfort:

A Dog's Last Will and Testament

Before humans die, they write their last Will & Testament, and give their horne and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I would ask...

To a poor and lonely stray l give:

My happy home.
My bowl, cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys.
The lap which I loved so much.
The hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice which spoke my name.
I will to the sad, scared shelter dog the place I had in my human's heart, of which there seemed no bounds.

So when I die please do not say,"I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand." Instead, go find an unloved dog; one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give MY place to him.

This is the only thing I can give...the love I left behind.

Sorry to hear that, I know how it is and the grief from it. We lost our dog a year ago and still we are not over him. I guess time will heal as they say, but when is the question. Hope you are doing okay?.......

DDC:

A nice thought for those who have lost a wonderful friend/companion.

OLD DOGS DO NOT DIE
We have a secret, you and I,
That no one else shall know,
For who, but I can see you lie,
Each night, in fireglow?
And who but I can reach my hand
Before we go to bed,
And feel the living warmth of you
And touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths,
And see, ahead of me,
Your sleek form racing with the wind,
So young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
In every brook I pass.
And, when I call, no one but I
Can see the bending grass.

RIP Mac

We'll keep you in our thoughts. Very sorry for your loss. May the pain of the loss leave you soon and be replaced by all the happy memories of the time you spent together.

We too love dogs. I understand how you feel. Just the other night I had trouble going to sleep thinking about a dog I lost several years ago.

I believe dogs have souls. No, they aren't the same as ours, but I truly think there is some sort of dog heaven.

BTW: we have 5...4 of which inherited

Our condolences...it's tearing me up reading some of the poems. We know how you feel from a loss at the last part of 2012.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge…

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone
here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and
hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play
together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our
friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health
and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and
strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days
and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except
for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them,
who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are
intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from
the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him
faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be
parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands
again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the
trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
