New Addition to the family

So we adopted a new furry kid yesterday. She is a 1 year old dapple mini Dachshund. The owners were getting a divorce and couldn't keep her. They had exhausted all their possibilities and were going to send her to the pound. We couldn't let that happen. Looks like we will now be taking 3 dogs with us on vacation. Thankfully they are small.

She's a cutie. We rescued a beagle last November and this will be her first camping season with us.

I like it Mike. I saw a sign the other day online that had the outline of the Dachsund with the warning "death from the ankles down" I wanted that one real bad. Might still have to get it. It's nice that they don't drag all of the outdoors in like our other dog. She is getting along well with our 5 year old doxie except for the toys where our older one is a bit possesive. I think she will be a good match for us.

That's awesome Jim. My wife wanted another one but I didn't until our 15 year old Bichon was gone, however he is still doing really well besides not being able to see or hear that good. I just couldn't take the thought of the Doxie going to the pound. It feels better to rescue one and give it a good home rather than "make" a new one.

People who keep dogs from going to the pound are the BEST.

My wife and I both agreed no dogs. So far I have had one St Bernard who we received from a family who did not have time for him any more. If we did not take him he was going to the pound. He passed away about 6 years ago and the wife said she was not going through that again. I know have a German Shepard for two years now that I got under the same circumstances as you. Best dog I have ever had. I am sure we will say she is our last too. No one ever asks to take their small dogs though.

It's funny how they become our kids. I know it will be very hard when our 15 year old finally goes as I have had him since he was a puppy. Our new little girl is getting used to us quickly and doing very well. She is a real sweetie for sure. Sometimes the best pets come to us via these kinds of unfortunate circumstances.

YAY for you and a big huge THANK YOU for rescuing such a special soul! I am a volunteer at my local county shelter and I know firsthand how life is once they are there.

We have a rescue as well and now that our human family is complete - he has become the son I never gave birth to. I adore him and know that he was just MADE for our family.

Thanks for the kind words Rachael. Post a pic of your "son". We would love to see him.
