When we get in my truck, Cinnamon rides in the passenger seat, in her doggie bed. Usually she will stand on her back legs and put both front paws on the armrest, and look out the window, for a short while and then she lays down on her bed.

They say that dogs can do, very human-like things, but today I looked over at her and I couldn't help but laugh. She was sitting upright and her right paw was resting on the armrest....just like a human!



And the look on her face in the second pic, was after I told her to lay down. Her expression reminded me of a human child....."But Mom, I called 'Shotgun'!

Yeah, I know I should probably restrain her when I am driving.....say that would be a good topic for another post....to see how many people restrain their dogs when they travel, and how they restrain them.

I think I saw that one person lets his dog ride in the bed of the truck when towing his trailer.

A seven pound miniature dachshund required me to custom a harness because we could not find one small enough for her.

Yes she is restrain, no she is not happy about it but I got over it real quick.

I do think dogs have ridden in truck beds since trucks were first made. Only when big brother gets involved... Just sayin'.

In Texas it's against the law for any child under the age of 18 to ride in an open pickup bed - but nothing in the law about dogs.

I know a guy who let his Blue Heeler ride in the bed, one day he took off a bit to quick, his loaded horse trailer was not forgiving.

Both of ours ride in their kennel that is tied down to the floor of the TV or whatever vehicle we are driving.

My dogs travel in their crates in the covered truck bed.

My little sister was driving with her husband, three children and their dog when they were hit by a drunk driver. Their son had the dog on a leash in his lap in the backseat. They were pushed off the road and careening on an embankment ready to slide off. Brother in law was passenger and he was able to scoot out and pull his kids out but my sister was trapped. Kids were set at a safe distance from vehicle and that's when my nephew realized he was holding an empty collar & leash. The dog had been ejected straight out of his collar thru the window. So kids are hysterical with their Mom stuck in a car ready to slide and their dog is gone.

Collisions happen in a blink of a second. Thankfully everyone was seat belted and that kept the humans in place. The dog became a projectile. Happy ending. Once help arrived, they were able to secure the Tahoe and pry my sis out. Everyone went to the hospital. Kids were hysterical about the dog. Brother in law went back to the scene and combed the woods for the dog while his family was safe in hospital. Dog was found, alive and well a few hours later.

PS - Drunk driver was found by the license plate they left in sister's vehicles grill. There was injuries she and her spouse and youngest child sustained but most importantly are all still with us. Yay.

We haven't restrained the 70 lbs Weimaraner when we travel. She rides on the floor under my son's feet and there's no way to belt her down down there. Now that we also have the Boston, I'm not sure how we're going to travel.

My preference is to put the dogs, kids and DW in her minivan and have her follow, leaving me in peace in the truck. Somehow I don't think she'd go for that.

Put them all in a kennel and strap it to the rear bumper of the trailer....

Our 70 lb boxer rides on the couch of the m/h wearing his harness tethered to the seat belt. He can get up and turn around moving from end to end of the couch but can't get onto the floor. Works well and he loves it.

I put harnesses on our and I have the short leashes and seat belt them in, however, one of them has figured out how to unbuckle herself (rotten little dog)
