I have even worked a dog fatality with the dog in the front floorboard. They were in an accident where the truck bumped the guardrail and the passenger stomped down crushing the dogs rib cage and killing it when the airbag went off the passenger's face.

Again, please do not let your pets ride in the front seats or in your lap. If you love your pet you will keep them safely in the back.
Thanks for your input but.... Please realize while not a good idea it is not illegal in all states to allow your pets to ride in the front seat or in your lap as it is not illegal in all states to allow dogs to ride unrestrained in the bed of a pickup. Even kids could ride unrestrained in a open pickup bed until a couple of years ago here. It was a major fight to get the law passed. Did not say it was a good idea but it is legal in many states.

Actually it is illegal in all states for a pet to ride in the lap of the driver while he is operating the vehicle, in the lap of the passenger can be ok but still extremely stupid!

The laws that restrict the pet in the drivers lap don't always allude to the pet directly but in all states but do say that you cannot have something there that can hinder proper operation of the vehicle or act unpredictably in a way that can cause an accident.

They are written with the same intention the laws that say slower traffic must keep right do not reference speed in any way and that if the majority of traffic around you is speeding, you must still move to the right even if you're going the speed limit.
